Gauges: Defi Link System Review

I decided to post this after having to reply to a bunch of folks over and over via PM about the gauges...My fingers are getting tired. So here it is, take it or leave it

Hey Dude,
I do like them alot...besides the fact that they are super accurate they are really easy to intall in somewhat of a modular fashion. There is a main computer that all the gauges are controled from...So basically you wire the power to the computer then each gauge has two wire ports on the back...One for linking to another gauge and then the other goes to the computer...so basically you daisychain the gauges together then the last gauge on the chain connects to the computer....All the sensor wires run straight to the computer and not the gauges.

Advantages:
- You don't have to run power or sensor to each gauge configuring a wiring nightmare under your dash
- Has a 45 second recording / playback function for all gauges which really helps so you don't have to stare at the gauges while doing WOT runs...just hit record, keep your eye on the road, then when you stop play it back and see what happened.
- Has peak warning function...Set your max reading for any gauge and when that max it reached it has a sold red light that comes on to annoy the **** out of you.
- Very close to stock with the black background, silver bezzel, and amber needle.
- Install is a snap.

Disadvantages:
- Wires in the kit came up a bit short for the mounting configuration that I have.
- Gauges light up green instead of amber (it actually a nice contrast in the dark)
- Peak settings get reset whenever you disconnect the battery (but then again everything does)

So with all that said I like 'em alot and they get all sorts of compliments...especially
"Are those stock?!"

Or my favorite from a bonafied Ricer:
"Man, thoses are sweeeet! Do they work?"

Current Gauge Configuration

Night Time (I know it's fuzzy and I will try and take a shot on a tripod next time)

There are individual gauge photos in my sig if you want to see what they look like close up.

I dont have the link system, but I do have the Defi D-series black face; EGT & Boost gauges. Mine light up amber like the stock gauges and have black and silver around the outside edges, I wonder if they give you a slightly different guage with the link system?
Either way, nice gauge setup!

I also have the Defi Link Series gauges. They are very high quality and I basically agree with everything Apneablue stated. The 45-second recording ability if invaluable for watching boost patterns, max boost, temp rise during WOT run, etc. I highly recommend these gauges.

I have mine mounted in one of flyrx7's tri-pods. You can see his site here for an idea of what they would look like:

I also recommend flyrx7's tri-pods.

I love my defi's too

I use the record function all the time when doing tunning runs.
and also love the center gaugepod I got from flyrx7, it's been holding up great and still looks new.
I know some will argue but I still like the gauges in the center than on the a pillar.

I ordered the D-Links, but they were back ordered at RX7Store.net, so I went with the D-gauges. I will be running EGT/Oil T/Water T in a triple A-pillar, then boost over the steering column, and A/F and Fuel P. in the center speaker. I will wait until I have them all mounted before I start hooking things up, so I only have to connect power/groung/illumination/ignition once!

Apnea Blue, what did you hook into for those connections?

I wired the one single power wire to the ash tray and then there was a ground which went on the dash support.

All the gauges get their power from the central computer...

While on the subject of these gauges I have a few questions, one is what is the difference between the Defi Link Series Gauges and the BF Series? And is it only the D-Gauges which come close to matching stock illumination/looks with the amber light and the chrome bezel?

The only difference between the Link series and the BF series is the BF series has fancier graphics and icy blue lighting instead of green. And they cost more.

The D-gauges are the only ones with amber lighting. I wanted amber lighting too but was willing to give that up and pay more to get the Link series capabilities.

the only other changes were made to the control unit for the gauges. The older version has
been replaced with a new control unit II the main diff between the boxes is,

It still works on the defi link gauges, but if you want the BF series gauges you have to run the
newer link II control unit.

other diffs are, instead of 40sec playback you have up to 3 mins of record time. it also gives an
audible beep with the warning function on the gauge.
oh, and the control unit is now backlit so you can see it at night.

Defi has some cool new stuff check there sight out for all the info and specs.

Their site is very impressive. The Defi-Link Display is a neat little toy, I wonder how much that thing runs.

I've heard the D-Link system lags a bit, how has it behaved for you?
