Gauge Cluster Issues

I'm having some problems with my gauge cluster...

My Speedometer, Tach, and Coolant gauge don't work 99% of the time. Occasionally the stars will align and they will all work, but only for a second or two.

Is there a specific ground, or anything for these 3 gauges?

My oil and fuel gauges both work just fine all the time.

I've been searching all day but the information on these gauges is very limited...

Well, lets see......

You say 99% of the time tach/speedo/coolant guages dont work? The first thing I would ask is when you experience the 1% all the sudden do all 3 start working correctly all the sudden at the same time? I am wondering if all 3 failures are the result of the same problem? Do you have a Power FC w/remote commander? If not before I even got any further into any guage problem I would get one. The remote commander will read things seperately from what you can view from the guages. For instance, if your speedo always reads 0, or is irratic acting, but the Power FC remote reads the correct speed in KPH, then it is safe to say the problem is not w/the guage. Just an example. Let me know if they all work or dont work at the same time consistently. I am in the garage now media blasting my rotor sections for my winter project.

Sounds like a dodgy earth to me. Also check the large (Its green on my 94) plug on the dash harness that plugs in behind the drivers kick panel (may be the opposite side on a LHD? not sure)

The dash harness grounds to the metal dash frame, this bolts to the tunnel with 4 bolts...could check those are clean & grounding okay.

I think I know what you meant anyways haha.

I wish I had a PFC...but I don't

Also, I'm not positive since they aren't hooked up, but Im pretty sure the gauges are either an all or nothing deal. But the Oil and Fuel ALWAYS work...

I replaced a capacitor on the speedometer today that looked a bit odd, we'll see if that helps.

Also, right now my cluster isn't hooked up...and I have to drive the car tomorrow to get to and from work. I know that the headlights won't turn on without the cluster plugged in but I won't be able to get it until AFTER work. Is there a way to jump the plug so that I can still turn my headlights on?

Hmm...I wish we could edit our posts...oh well.

I cleaned up all the connectors with a brush and hooked it all back up today, and the tach and speedo worked...but the coolant temp still doesn't work. Neither does the odometer...

Still, a tach and speedo is good enough for me I guess.

However, my headlights still don't work...so I guess it wasn't the cluster...now I have to figure those out :/
