Hi,

i'm planing to install some gauges, including a wideband. I read several threads and searched but did not find out what's the best way to route the cable from the wideband sensor installed in the downpipe to the interior. Along the tranny tunnel or somehow underneath the passenger seat were some solutions. Are there other possibilities?
What about those cables from boostgauge oder watertemp gauge the come from the engine bay? i found out that theres a whole covered by a plastic piece and a rubber piece behind the fender well lining on the drivers side. You need to take them out ... the problem is that the plastic piece is hold by clips inside and i don't want to break them off. Are there other routing possibilities for those?

 

and one more question: if want to install the watertemp sensor (for a water temp gauge) like explained here: http://home.ptd.net/~blouzbee/guides/boost.html that means between the watertube on the throttlebody. is this tube under pressure - or in other words, will water come out if i cut in?

 

I'm not certain about everyone else and I'm not certain if you are LHD or RHD but I imagine it would be the same just reversed.

There is a grommet on the passenger side that runs through the firewall. I personally am using PLX devices and I run the connection from the O2 sensor through the grommet and then where is needed from there. You can easily run it into the glove box, up into the dash, wherever.

Personally I had successes using a piece of wire to gently push the line through to where I needed it.

Question #2: Yes, some coolant should come out generally but not a lake. Prepare for a little mess, top it off and go.

but if the car is cold and you open the radiator cap it should be manageable with a rag
dont drive the car the day u plan to do this though

 

i think the grommet you mean is the same thing described in the link i posted. i'm rhd by the way. Thanks for help so far. other opinions?

 

I ran my WB through the Tranny tunnel. Simple easy and plenty of room with plenty of grounding options. For items that live in the engine bay, take off the passenger side fender liner and cut a minor hole throught the grommet into th cabin. THis way you don't have to cut holes in your FW, and you have rubber protecting the wires.

 

@dfoster: "trough the tranny tunnel" what exactly does that mean? did you rout the cable along the tranny tunnel into the engine bay and from there through the hole in the firewall or is there a direct entrance from the tranny tunnel to the cabin?
