Gasket sealant

Ok, about to put my turbos back on, and I noticed that the gaskets that are right next to the compressor wheels have this red sealant stuff on them. Is it normal to put some type of sealant on the turbo gaskets? Or are they supposed to be left clean like the other gaskets on the car?

If you are referring to the gaskets on the intake and output openings on the compressor side of the turbos, no sealant is necessary. These should be metal gaskets. I do put RTV (orange) on the exhaust gaskets, however. Stinks and smokes for ten minutes after start-up but you have a nice lasting seal.

Ok now here's the new question: The 4 turbo intake gaskets I have have the dried gummy sealant on them right now. Should I a: clean the sealant off and use them clean; b: put them on with the old sealant still on them; or c: get new copper sealant, apply, and put them on. I'd rather do a or b by the way. Ideas?
