Gas tank baffle?

Yesterday my fuel gauge was a little over half then like a second later i looked and it was just under 1/4 tank. I pulled over and checked for a fuel leak but did not see anything leaking and didn't smell any fuel. I searched on this site and found two possible problems.

One being my float level sensor arm being dirty and the other being one of the baffles inside being loose. So i pulled the pump out and found the right side big L shaped metal baffler floating around. All the spot welds are broken.

So can i take it out and leave it out or do i have to fix it? I not against fixing it i just can't do it today.

you can take it out if its broken and just floating around. you can't fix it with the gas tank in the car.

the problem with the fuel level is most likely the sensor arm or the gauge. mine started doing that recently and that is what i discovered when i searched old threads on the topic.

This baffle loose was my problem. It must have finally just broke free and rested against my float level linkage.

I know i have to drain the tank and remove it but just wanted to know if i could drive it for a little bit until i had the time to fix it. I can't see anything getting damaged with it removed but ya never know everytime you mess with something, something else f's up.
