gas lid (spring)

Ok hopefully this is an easy thing but when I use the latch my door rarely opens. I believe the spring thingy that pushes the door open is not working very well. About 80% of the time it doesn't open unless someoen is pushing down and right on the latch while I open the lid by hand. I took the lid off but I don't really see how I can "tighten" the spring thing to make it work.

Any ideas? Also how should this spring come off? Do you pry it off the metal shaft or are you supposed to remove the shaft so you do not bend the metal spring thing?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I have the opposite problem, the latch that holds the door closed is broken off, so my gas door spring pops the door open all the time.

Oops accidently hit the submit button..

Anyways.. I have issues with my gas door also.
I gried WD40, Lithium grease, and etc. and the door
always sticks. I even went as far as taking it to a body
shop and see what they could do.. They said, they
would have to take the whole car apart to get/replace
that Gasdoor cable.. HELL with that..

So my solution to the issue was. a Key on my FD
key ring, with large and sharp teeth on the key.
I slide the KEY into the lil gap in the door where the
gasdoor PIN is.. I grip the PIN witht he KEY and SLIDE
it over u ntil it releases the gas door. and Whala.
other than that, I havne't heard or seen any remedy to
the gas door issue..

Before I figured out a way to open it..
one time, I was like out of gas, gas light on, gas door
wouldn't open.. So I had to litterally break the gas
door off, just so i wouldn't be stranded.. LUCKYLY
the service manager understood my problem, and
covered it under warranty..
