gas guage not working help

my fuel guage started giving fuunky reading and now its sunk all the way down and dosent move when i fill up. is it the level sender how to you diagnose this, just throw parts at it?

Pull the fuel pump from the tank.

1) clean the contacts. There is a metal rheostat that pivots with the fuel level float.

2) Inspect the tank baffles. If they break loose they can block the fuel leve float.

could this be also causeing fuel cut now thats starting to happen intermitently.

No as the level sensor is not tied into the ECU at all. Perhaps you're running low on fuel when that happens?
