gas/burnt oil smell when A/C fan is on

When ever I drive I like a little warm/cold air, so I turn on the A/C Fans, (but with AC still off) I also push in the little button that lets the air come in from the outside of the car (the one with an arrow coming into the car as opposed to the one with the arrow turning in the car) anyways. It's fine when I'm warming it up, but once warm, when ever I stop for more than about 5 seconds, my cockpit gets filled with the smell of gas. If I turn the A/C fans off, the smell doesn't come in. Some times I get a whiff of burnt oil, but mostly its just the smell of gas. It smells as long as the A/C fans are blowing. Also, I premix, so the burnt oil smell might be coming from the gas, but I don't know.

Hello

I have a similar issue but do not know if its only when my fan is on. I have it mostly when sitting idle. I asked KDR INC about and he suggested it would be my carbon canister that may need replacing. Its located at the rear driver side. I have yet to replace mine and see if it resolves my issue. I ordered an new canister from Mazda today.

Oh.. I think I saw this canister when I was replacing my fuel filter. Do you have a picture? That would be awesome. What exactly does this canister do and how does it affect the fans and how they blow gas into the car?

I thought that gas and oil is the natural aroma of our wankel engines; and especially the tuned ones. I too have a smelly passenger’s cabin whenever the AC is on, with the respective button directing air from the outside. Whenever the air is circulated from the inside no gas, no oil smell…

Part Number to change

Hello

I have not change my unit yet. I ordered the part yesterday and should have it done next week. I will post an update after its done to let you know if it resolved my issue which seems to be the same as you both. The suggestion to change the canister came from a good source not selling me the part.

The part number is
N3A113970

I am told not to bother with a used one as its age that affects these items and not miles since my car only has 17500 miles on it.

Again, I have not done it yet, its only what I have done it.

Regards

Max

when you do it or before you do could you take some pictures? That would be awesome. I also thought that oil and gas was the natural smell, but in the cockpit? That cant be good right? I guess I should try the circulating one to see if its just form the outside. Thanks Panagiotis

I was just following this up. The problem with the gas has gone away now, but now instead of gas, I smell burnt Oil. The same smell i get when I park the car, and smoke comes out of the right side of the engine. I'm pretty sure I have a leak in the turbo area and its burning th leaked oil. I was just wondering if it was something to do with the gas smell I was getting a couple weeks ago. Anybody have any ideas?
