gas additives
gas additives
ok, so I'm done putting my project rx7 together and I started it up to move it out of my garage yeasterday. I have never ran the car before and this is my first one. It seemed to run well but backfired a few times when I revved it then let of the gas real fast, of course this is also my first high performace car so maybe that is common (my other car is a hyundai). I was thinking that the car had not been run in about a year and was nearly on empty when I got it so maybe I need to just run it for a while and maybe put a bottle of that injector cleaner stuff through it. I know predetonation is like the number one cause of death to rotaries and I wasn't sure if putting those additives in with the gas might cause it to predetonate. Any thoughts?
Did it have any fuel stabilizer in the tank? I'd drain the tank and put in a fresh tank of gas to be on the safe side. You could always put the old gas in your Hyundai.

You should be able to find the M.M.O. at Wal-Mart. I run about four oz. at every fill up. Pour the M.M.O. in first then fill the tank with at least 93 octane.
Our high octane is 91 here in tree-hugging state of CA.
It seems that every 3 years or so they drop the octane point by a factor of 2.
Guess, I'll have to buy 100 octane race gas 20 miles away at $5~/gal.

On the weekends I fuel up with the premium stuff when the tank is empty on Fridays.
