Now i need to get the engine out to change that *******
solenoid!!!!!!! Its under the rack and I cant even put a hair
into the damn place!!

I removed the alternator and no luck!!!

I become sick of the damn car!!!!

Damn!!! What the hell mazda thought when they did the
dam turbo system on that car!!!!

I never saw such a mess r!!!

I thing its time for me to sell the car and buy a hassle free

I know how you feel. I was having problems back in the fall and I gave myself until winter was over to have the car fixed or I was going to get a Vette or used NSX.

Well, I still have the car.

Sorry I can't help with your problem, but good luck.

SOrry man but owning a unique car like this has its ups and down. Maybe not the most reliable car, but i know deep down you love this car to death, just like the rest of us. So keep the damn thing, and you will be glad you made that decision. Marc

You don't have to pull the engine man. With the alternator off, take off the coolant hose in front of the rack, and the 2 or 3 screws on the front of the rack. Now, with a screwdriver bit for a cordless drill inside a 1/4 inch socket, take off the screws on the back of the rack. Be careful to not break any more solenoids while taking the rack off, though. Good luck, and calm down.

Well i either say you can keep being a wuss and sell it or you can relize that you are the one that broke the thing and you are going to have to fix it. Granted mazda was smoking a little crack when designing that aspect of the car but still you knew what you had coming. Before i did the vacuum hose job i found out everything i could and everyone thing i read was that those were going to be very britle, and you use extreme caution when removing hoses. And almost all of the solenoids can be jimmied out from under there. By thinking you need to take the whole engine out it shows how much you know about you car. Just due some research on getting you rats nest out and you will find that if you just take out the coils and un screw the braket the whole thing will come out.

So either you can keep bitchin a moaing and fix it or go even further and do the complete hose job or you could just cry about it and sell it and go buy yourself a Z06 and sell that piece of junk you have to someone who is willing to go through littles problems like this one you having. Thats right it's just litte problem and will only cost $25-60 and some time and by the time your done you will know tons more about your car. And i would really like to know how old you are and how long you have had the car in order to have something as little as this make you bash it so bad.

I'm with Rikki, I found out all about it first, then when I got started I didn't even know how to take the manifold off. In the end I broke two solenoids on the bottom, but I didn't have to take the alternator off or anything, just be carefull and I garantee you will do it and be very happy about it. I did, and it was the first time I worked on a car. So it isnt that tough.

Yea I have a friend that was talking to the head mech for the local Chevy place here. They had 4 ZO6's in there cause they were smoking. Everyone of them had bad rings. I'd hate to be the one person that my rings didnt fail.....untill 2K after the warrenty expired, thats how my luck would be!!!!

I know its a pain in the *** but one you get in there and start taking some stuff apart its not that bad. Take some good pics of the rats nest so if you forget where something goes you'll have pics.

Later,
STEPHEN

I dont even take out the rack now!! i have done about alot of tyrap jobs and each one gets alot better i have done them in about 4 1/2 hours!! but that is with caffine pills and cigs. and most important

Ryan
Did the same thing with my turbo solenoid when doing the silicon hose job. But I fixed the nipple, 10kmi later it still works.

Got a piece of pastic tubing from my boost gauge and slipped the broken nipple over it, pushed it onto the solenoid where the added piece held the nipple in place and put lots of epoxy around it and built up the area to strengthen. Trimmed back the plastic tubing to the end of the nipple and put on the hose again. Worked great saved me over a hundred bucks!

luneytune: thats a great idea, fixing up the nipple yourself. but theres a catch. the solenoids have two kinds of nipples. one that is just a simple nipple nothing else, the other has a small ball mechanism underneath it. so with correct voltage, the ball is pulled backwards allowing air/vacuum to pass. otherwise it blocks the passage of the nipple. if you put a tube or something in there, and put tons of superglue on top of it, it might affect the ball mechanism.

serge: relax!!!!!!! you know, 4 months ago i decided to change my vacuum hoses and broke a nipple on a solenoid too. i was soooo damn frustrated (cuz the car was all open, and wouldnt run either). felt extremely helpless. but after a while, i decided that i will fix it no matter what. and after a little effort and three more broken solenoids, my car runs perfectly. you just have to be patient. i changed the vacuum hoses and the solenoids without taking the rack out.

taking the rack out is recommended, but it can be done otherwise. what you need to do it is unhook all the vacuum hoses that connect to that particular solenoid (if you dont think its possible to do it without taking the rack, then take a deep breath and try again- its doable!). make sure that the hoses you disconnect dont put a lot of tension/force on the nipples of other solenoids, cuz they might just break too. once the hoses are out, you need to take the connector out. i used a screw driver (not a phillips head, the other one) for that. use your hand to press the button on the connector (or use some other way to make sure the connector is in the mode where it can be pulled out). once its in that mode, use the screw driver and force it between the solenoid and the connector. once the solenoid is all disconnected, use one of your hands to push it upwards (this will break the base of the solenoid-i recommend that you get a new one and dont try and superglue it back on or anything). once you feel that its broken, pull it horizontally towards yourself (i assume you will be standing on the drivers side of the car). once the solenoid is out, put the new one back on. put the connector on it. and your ready to go man!

relax, you can do it!

and remember, when mazda designed this car they didnt take into consideration the factor that owners might want to fix things up in the car themselves. its hard to design a small car with 255 horses in the 1980s and keep all the components of the car simple and easy to get to.

I broke like 2 or 3 of them while doing my hoses. I should've just ordered new solenoids and by-pass valves through-out. The rubber hoses were ROCK hard and exploded when squeezed. I couldn't cut them at all, so chipped away until all of it was off the nipples. It was [b]SUCH[/] a spin in the ***. It needed it though, two soelnoids had broke nipples already and one check valve had broke in half or came apart(?).

Hey, serge, just be thankfull u dont have a ferrari mondial or an audi s4. if u want to change all the spark plugs in the ferrari, u need to pull the motor to get to the bottom one. And for downpipes on an S4, same f*ckin deal, pull the motor. talk about slacking in the design department. good luck with the sol.

You are correct. You do have to watch how far in you push the tubing to avoid sticking the mechanism.
