while we're on the topic, how do resonated midpipes compare to high flow cats in terms of noise and performance?

Easy. A STi with an exhuast sounds like a blown rotary.

From inside the cockpit the VQ engines sounds "unique". From outside, they sound like an FD smog pump.

Just disconnect the airpump intake!

Noise: alot depends on the resonator. I have a magnaflow muffler welded into my midpipe and i am very happy with the noise level at cruise and low rpms. At WOT all hell still breaks loose though . High flow cat will be quieter, but not by all that much in my experience. The stock cat works well to keep everything under wraps.

Performance: the cat will give backpressure, so you wont have to worry about boost creep on the stock twins/internal wastegate. it will hurt performance of course. alot of it has to do with your rwhp/mod/boost level. a correct res mp will flow just like a mp.

I have theJIC full titanium with a midpipe and no resonator. It sounds good but is pretty loud. Go here to hear the video of it.
