From the G-Tech to the track!

I was tired of all the B.S. of the G-Tech and went to the track. It was a ridiculously humid day and I rushed it, but I was tired of just having G-Tech numbers which really account for nothing.

I JUST got in my BFGoodrich Gforce Drag Radials 275/35/18, had them mounted, got gas, then drove an hour to the track. Kind of pissed me off because it was packed! Waiting forever in line for each run. Didn't have a chance for the motor to cool off, each run was at 98 degrees, because of the stopping and starting in the long line-up.

My goal here was somewhere in the 11.9 some-odd range. But I should have taken more time to plan it out, cause I forgot my helmet, tire pressure gauge and cash(good thing I had my bank card on me).

I got there late, and had to wait in line for my first run. I didn't have any roll control so I did NO burnouts all night. Didn't know how the car was going to react and I totally blew the launch. Car went 12.8@116Mph. So all in all, that G-Tech is off somewhere near 5-10Mph, but the E.T. is pretty close. This was with a 2.4 60 foot. Shitty.

Next run was a long wait in line for them to groom the track. Engine temps went from 100 down to 90 up to 100 down to 90, all from keeping it at an idle. But I figured I would actually try and launch this bi-ach. I revved it to around 3500 and rode the clutch a tad. Car went 12.07@116Mph. Close....not good enough. Again the wait was silly (15 car line-up in each lane) when I went for a 3rd time. This time I figured I would cool it...I did it was 82 degrees but by the time I got to the line it hit 97 again. The car was hooking fine with these radials so I left the tire pressure at 25 pounds. I staged and left at around 5500, car wheelhopped and bounced off rev-limiter but I stayed in it for a 12.4@117 with a 2.2 60 foot. ****!
Dropped tire pressure to 20 pounds and quickly went out again. Again I had to wait in line but it was near the end of the night and I had to keep giving another guy back his helmet so it was a big waiting game. There was no way I could make back to back passes.
Anyhow, last run I figured I would rev a bit higher on the launch. I was scared shitless that I was gonna blow my stock rear, and the fact I was an hour away by myself. The upgrades I have are the 300M axles, a diff brace, trailing arms, and toe links, but stock diff.
So I pull up, they spray the track, and I tried to punch it and dump it. The car just made CRAZY wheelhop, the worst I have ever heard from any car, and went another 12.4@116.5Mph.
I said enough was enough for this nite as the car was just not prepared for a decent launch. My 11.9 will wait for some other day.
I went home totally pissed at the whole night, figuring it was a waste of time, realizing I need to sort the wheelhop and put in a decent rearend before I can actually consider beating on this anymore. The car went well considering I just pulled up to the line without buring out. But it's just not good enough.

This night made me realize how bad I would really like a strond rearend and a single turbo. And a 1.5-1.6 60 foot, which would really help pick this car up.

By the way, the tires have a 25.3 inch diameter and I was shifting into 4th about 100feet from the line, so 4.33 would really help over my 4.10's.

Next time, I'll get it next time.

G-Tech trap speed is the actual speed you are going at the end. The drag strip measures your average speed over the last 60 or 100 feet, something around that. Pretty cool they are so accurate, I have been thinking of getting one for awhile but keep thinking there is so much more I could do with those few bucks.

I find that slipping the clutch alot more on the track I get virtually no wheel hop. I used to dump it and hop like mad, but last time I started slipping it and no wheel hop plus I dropped about .3 off my time. Cant wait to go again now that I replaced my turbos.

I've heard the higher ya rev the less wheel hop, thats what i've read about E.T.streets anyhow. Even with out linelock you should still be able to heat up the tires.

KD Street porting, 2mm Hurly Racing Seals, Unorthodox pulleys, ACT Clutch, Racing Beat 9.5lb Flywheel, A'Pexi Intake, Front mount Intercooler, BOV, Greddy Elbow, Power FC + Commander, 550-1300cc inj, and stock turbos were jet-hot coated. Mazda Comp. Rad, and HKS exhaust. These are mods that actually matter. 340RWHP @ 15-17 psi.
Car should still go 11.80's.
Pretty good for an Idiot Canadian.
