Angry G' Dammit...Every time a flat tire is repaired the Speed Rating is Gone ??

I've had 2 tires repaired in the past month...one patch and one plug. I have Z Rated Tires but as I understand the Speed Rating is Erased once a tire has been repaired. So, I guess no runs over 120 until the next new set. I guess it will slow me down for a while...Anyway, it will keep me out of trouble.

Yup, they lose the rating because a plug or patch isn't made out of the same material as a z rated tire and cant hold up to the speeds and heat. Not safe at all.

They drop a rating, actually.

Put it this way... would you bet your life on a $200 tire? Replace the damn thing if you want to drive Mach 5.

Ive gone 135 with a plug in a tire and had NO problems. I wouldnt recomend doing it all the time, but if it is a tiny hole, and the excess of the plug is trimmed correctly, you should be alright. Patches are even safer. I have also autcrossed with a plug in the same tire. My tires are crappy Z-rated Comp T/As, and they would handle it with no problem, so you will be fine to go REALLY fast occasionally, but Replace the tires just to be safe. As someone kinda said.....do you want to trust a $4 tire plug/patch with your life? I only took the chance of going fast becuase I plug and patch all of my flat tires myself and was positive that it was done correctly. Also...some advide for anyone that wants to fix their own flat tires: throw a tore away if it has a hole anywhere near the sidewall. It will not be reliable even if fixed correctly. I have seen tires go flat again after the plug was pulled out of the tire from hard cornering because the plug was in a hole at the very edge of the tread. Patches also do not seal as strongly if they are bent to the shape of the inner corner of the tire. Just my .02!
