Funky Headlight Malfunction

My driver's side headlight has started doing something really strange. When I turn on the lights it takes a few seconds for it to pop up and when I turn them off, it will close a little every few seconds and finally close after a minute or so. Has anyone had this happen or know what causes it? TIA.

I had a similar problem and found that the fuse box was pushing into the manual lift/lower ****. Rearranged some wiring and the problem stopped.

Is yours making any noises when its going up or down?

Yeah, a loud vibrating noise. I can feel the noise in the steering wheel. I checked and the manual ***** are clear and have the rubber covers on them.

I had a similar problem, but not as slow raising and lowering the light as in your case. Mine turned out to be a bad ground. In such a case, the light raises slower than it lowers, because during raising the headlight itself is also powered on, putting greater load accross the bad ground connection.
Anyway, though it sounds a little different, it may be worth checking to see if it is anything to do with the grounding. To do this is very easy. Try raising the lights using the dash-located "raise-to-clean" switch. If the light goes up faster, (now no headlight load), it is probably grounding related.
When the lamp is raised, is the headlight fully lit or is it dim? If dim, this would be another sign of a bad ground.

BTW, getting to and fixing the ground connection is a pain. Let's hope you don't need to do it!
Hope this helps.
Dave

If you are getting lots of vibration and mechanical noise you don't have an electrical problem, you have a mechanical one. Take the headlight out and see what kind of mood the headlight motor and gearbox are in.

light motor - not such a 'funky' problem when you see the price

I had one go a month after the other - not happy!
