Fuel tank material

I'm in the midst of developing a way to correct the fuel starvation issue for my car. I was wondering if anyone knew for certain what the 1993 FD fuel tank is made of.
I am looking for any possible information: thickness, series number, coatings and experiences welding.

I have deduced that it is 16 Ga mild steel however I am not certain.

Any input?

Think it may be 18 gauge aluminised under the sealant.....one was cut and shut locally here with a 100mm extension for a 24hr race in Germany....anyhoo, don't see the issue - get cuttin', start measurin'.
