I'm assuming your on the stock ECU, no CEL's and the car was at full operating temp. Since your running a stock cat with no AP, I would check that.

can't compensate for afr on stock ecu w/ no airpump can you? change the plugs and get ecu or reinstall airpump?

correct me if i'm wrong but it's my understanding you can't get proper idle afr's w/o airpump on stock ecu?

might help to mask some of the raw fuel smell but cats don't like to be subjected to ultra rich afr's anyway, isn't a solution

Oh come on, people sell air pumps on the forum all the time. How long have you been running the stock cat with no air pump? That is your problem!

Running a midpipe can/will lead to boost creep, which is tricky even with an aftermarket ECU or PFC. I do NOT suggest that.
I'm not positive that a new cat would cure it, but I would check it. You didn't mention any other problems associated with a plugged cat, so I'm not sure, but it was the first thing I thought of.

dont run a straight pipe (you have down pipe already ), if you put the midpipe on there with the stock ecu , there is a chance that you could get some boost creep and explode and die

The stock ECU is programmed to run rich to protect the engine. Removing the airpump and putting on a downpipe will cause the extra fuel to end up as unburned exhaust. That is why there two cats and an airpump on the car stock. I am running a DP with a high flow cat and catback exhaust with an airpump and it still smells of gas until the cat heats up.
