fuel smell coming from exhaust

so this morning i noticed a bit of smoke coming from my exhaust... so i decided to smell it... whoa.. my f'n eyes burned... i couldnt see... now it smells like fuel... how can i lean it out... my mods are intake, exhaust, downpipe, oem cat, greddy boost controller, no p/s, no a/c, and removed the airpump... any suggestions???

I'm assuming your on the stock ECU, no CEL's and the car was at full operating temp. Since your running a stock cat with no AP, I would check that.

i have a midpipe shoud i slap that on???

BoostFrenzy 03-06-07 08:12 PM

can't compensate for afr on stock ecu w/ no airpump can you? change the plugs and get ecu or reinstall airpump?

shazzam00 03-06-07 08:21 PM

yea... thot so what about hi flo cat... my airpump is gone... i tried looking for one but no luck...

BoostFrenzy 03-06-07 08:22 PM

correct me if i'm wrong but it's my understanding you can't get proper idle afr's w/o airpump on stock ecu?

shazzam00 03-06-07 08:23 PM

i workin on the ecu... i thot a hi flow cat can help...

shazzam00 03-06-07 08:24 PM

im workin on the ecu... i thot a hi flow cat can help...

BoostFrenzy 03-06-07 08:25 PM

might help to mask some of the raw fuel smell but cats don't like to be subjected to ultra rich afr's anyway, isn't a solution

shazzam00 03-06-07 08:27 PM

im looking for a pump might as well...

rynberg 03-06-07 08:34 PM

Oh come on, people sell air pumps on the forum all the time. How long have you been running the stock cat with no air pump? That is your problem!

Sgtblue 03-06-07 08:38 PM

Running a midpipe can/will lead to boost creep, which is tricky even with an aftermarket ECU or PFC. I do NOT suggest that.
I'm not positive that a new cat would cure it, but I would check it. You didn't mention any other problems associated with a plugged cat, so I'm not sure, but it was the first thing I thought of.

shazzam00 03-07-07 03:43 PM

i dont know what a plugged cat feels/sounds like... nut im geting the pump... ive been the runnin the it for like 2 weeks...

felix_is_alive 03-07-07 04:15 PM

YEAH fools double post !!

felix_is_alive 03-07-07 04:15 PM

dont run a straight pipe (you have down pipe already ), if you put the midpipe on there with the stock ecu , there is a chance that you could get some boost creep and explode and die

shazzam00 03-07-07 09:01 PM

great...

The stock ECU is programmed to run rich to protect the engine. Removing the airpump and putting on a downpipe will cause the extra fuel to end up as unburned exhaust. That is why there two cats and an airpump on the car stock. I am running a DP with a high flow cat and catback exhaust with an airpump and it still smells of gas until the cat heats up.
