fuel rail removal?

I have done some searches and only came up with injector removal tips and aftermarket fuel rail tips, but no tips on how to get the fuel rail out. I am in the middle of my hose job and I need to get the fuel rail out. anyone want to enlighten me on how this is done. thanx

Remove the ACV, and then you should just have 2x12mm bolts and 1x17mm banjo bolt

I had a few extra notes that mention the fuel rail: http://web.newsguy.com/geesaman/Write-up.PDF

Rotoboy, why would you suggest removing the LIM, which means removing the downpipe and turbos first? Sounds like a death wish.

Because he's being a smartass. If I used his logic I would pull the engine just so I wouldn't have to hunch over the engine bay when I change the oil filter. Or maybe he meant UIM...

Remove the ACV (3 10mm nuts) and you'll have plenty of space to work with. Once thats gone, remove the fuel lines on each side of the rail then remove the 2 12mm bolts holding the rail down.

Why do you need to remove the fuel rail if you're just doing the hose job?

yeah you dont have to remove the fuel rail to do a hose job. unless you just want to get it out to port it for biggger injectors since you halready have most the other stuff apart at this time

thanx everyone.
dgeesaman- nice write up, should be all the info I need.
spekdah - thanx man, I know. I wanted something different and purple I like. so I did.
DamonB - I need to get the hoses underneath, and I am thinking of checking the FPD.
rotoboy661 - very nice Mike, maybe I will just pull the engine, there is still that oil leak and motor mount issue. ha! comedy.
I got the write up and am trying to finish this **** up tonight. wish me luck!!

if you all did the hose job without pulling the fuel rail, how the hell did you get the hoses off and back on that disappear underneath there. you guys must be surgeons or some ****? if I can do it without removing it, I will. chime in

Dave.... since november I searched for a detailed write up for hose jobs. The closest I got was "before, middle, middle again, and after". Either that or just a simple huge document explaining how to do it, what to take off and what to use blah blah. And now... when I gave up, looking and hoping for a guy with a sec. boost problem like mine and ACTUALLY tells what his problem was, I find this. Dave... I love you .

Ok really, thanks alot for posting that write up. It's gonna help me alot and end my search for hose job write ups.

Jeremy

TAKE YOUR TIME!!! I made a few mistakes that ended up being 1 step forward, 2 steps back. You'll move a lot faster by being thorough. Think removing the ACV was annoying, try doing it twice because you forgot something.

I did the hose job without pulling the fuel rail by using long needle-nosed pliers with duct-tape wrapped on the ends to prevent cutting the hose. My years of playing Operation as a child paid off.

I pulled it to get around it, but also to replace the FPD and because I was still considering getting the injectors done. The FPD was on there pretty good - I'm glad I didn't try to change that in place.

Haha. That's true! The one nipple on the inside of the LIM is hard to get to and I used long pliers and a coat hanger to get it on. When I put the new motor in much later I remembered to add that line while the LIM was still off!

alright, follow-up. I did the rest of the job last night. Everyone that said you can do it without moving the fuel rail was right. you basically have to move the engine harness up and out of the way, after careful manuvering you can access all three hose nipples under the rail. just make sure you route the harness back the way it was. thanks for the help and good luck to anyone doing this. oh helps to have hands and fingers that can get down in there. luckily I had a friend that did.
