Fuel Pumps - Bosch 040
Hi all,
I have a Bosch 040 in tank pump (the one with the mesh bottom) which is uninstalled.
I am working on my setup, and will be going single turbo - looking for 400-450 RWHP.
My tuner is trying to swing me to a dual walbro setup.
I have searched a whole heap and come up with loads of conflicting information, and not a whole lot on the bosch 040. There is plenty on the 044.
The first question I have is, in practice, how much can the 040 really flow? I don't care what the manufacturer says etc.. I want someone with real experience with it. I know the 044 supposedly flows more. I only want to know about the 040 please.
Secondly, my tuner has told me they are unreliable. Could someone with experience with this pump chime in please?
I am concerned about dual walbros, cos of one failing, and not knowing - then finding out the hard way on the next boost!
If the concensus is ditch the 040 for a dual walbro, then I will do it, but please let me know your experience with it and reasoning.
Please help! thanks!

In my professional opinion, the walburo pumps are garbage; i've seen them generally fail around the two-year period. With a dual-pump setup, you'll know when one has failed or is failing. basic physics, if one pump is only making 20psi and the other is making 35 psi, the second pump will end up pumping into the first, lower psi pump. you'll have all types of problems, even at idle. So don't be afraid to go with the dual setup, for as i stated, you will know when there is a delivery problem. I used to install dual pumps, but we used the cosmo pumps, as i'm sure you're familiar with the term for these pumps. to be honest, i never knew who the actual manufacturer for them was, but they were much more reliable all around.

i'll throw in my .02$. I wouldn't run any other pump than the Walbro 255lph. I've ran them on every single car that I've owned and NEVER had any problems. I drove my modded 240sx for about 5 years and never had one problem.
Supra pump is good one, too; however, walbro gets my vote everytime.
p.s. I don't know much about the Bosch 040 pump. If you can get a liters per X information, we might be able to help you out more. The Walbros flow about 255lph. If you're in that ballpark you should be ok.

Yeh I am having trouble finding any information on the bosch 040. Plus I don't like to trust what a manufacturer puts down on paper. I might just hook it up and dial in a pressure with my regulator, and see what it flows in real life.
The thing that bothered me was my tuner saying they are junk and crap out.... then again I have heard the same thing about walbro.... I'm beginning to think that maybe there is no bullet - proof option?
Also if one of the two pumps fails in a dual setup, wouldn't that lead to an extremely lean condition on the next boost? Basically you wouldn't know until it was too late? *edit* just re-read the part about trouble at idle.... is that because the pressure will be so low with one failed that you will notice a fuel starvation prob even at idle?
Thanks for the opinions guys... I realise these sorts of topics have been beaten to death, but nothing specific to the bosch 040....
