Fuel gauge problem

My fuel gauge does not work. It always stays on Empty. Is there a way to fix the gauge or do I have to buy a new one?

It's probably the sending unit.

This thread has some info on cleaning it.

Take the cover off the fuel tank from inside the trunk and pull out the fuel pump carrier. Sometimes the float comes off. You should find it floating around in the tank.
