Maxpesce- Sorry man that doesn't work in Cali anymore. According to CHP the front plate MUST be mounted to the vehicle. No more sticking it in the front dash.

I finally gave in and mounted a plate on my kit yesterday. Good thing KnightSports designed the kit to use a plate so it's not as bad as i thought it would look.

The CHP Officer may have TOLD you the plate must be bolted to the front bumper. BUT the last time I read the VEHICLE CODE. The section that covers licence plates only said that the Licence # had to be legible from both the front and rear of the car at all times.
Always READ the V.C. whe you get a citation in many FixIt cases the CHP officers missapply the V.C. and / or cite the wrong code section, which voids the citation -
In any case it is only a FixIt citation - Just put the plate on, get it written off and the remove the plate! - FixIts dont go into your record unless the are no written off within 30 days.

No longer a fix it ticket either. Depending where you live in CA now it is a flat fine. Check your area for thier 2002 updates. Torrance is one place that has changed, also San Francisico.

In SF if your car is parked they can and will still give you a ticket for no front plate. Sucks *** big time.

i saw this ad in carboy, they make a license plate holder that mounts on front bumper, when u reach 80km/h, the holder automaticly fold in
pretty cool ehh? and it's pretty cheap also. the price in the jpn ad was under USD$100.

cops are such dicks...they only care about the front license plate so they can make more money (those interesections which take pictures of ur car if u go thru the red only really work if u have a front license plate)

when i first got my rx back in march, this cop pulled me over for speeding and gave me hell cuz i didnt have a front plate on. (plus he said he thought the delaware plate was a fake...like it matters cuz i pulled over and showed him all my registration and all that...i didnt have my CA plates yet cuz i got em personalized). so all i did was buy some 99cent speaker wire from thriftys/rite aid and rigged up my plate real quick, took it to the chp office, got it signed, and went home and took it off.

it was hilarious, i told the officer who signed it off that i was 'waiting for the mounting kit' and so i would keep it on like this until i got it...hehehe, he was all 'i don't know son, it looks kinda flimsy like that' ...no ****. i took it off just minutes after he signed it off.

i dunno, ive been driving my ford probe now for like nearly 3 years, and even tho ive probly been pulled over like 6 times in it (cops like to harass people in the cental coast, i usu. just get let go) and not *ONCE* has an officer even MENTIONED that i didnt have a front plate...oh well

FD01-50-170B is the part number for the complete front factory bracket. It lists for around $60, but you can get it for less at a discount mazda dealership.

You know,when it comes to cops,and front plates,,me,,i don't like a
front plate, and in the past,i got nailed,,the thing is,,they get you when
it's not a good time,,dope in the car,,drunk,,you know ? don't give
them any reason to check you out as far as the car goes.you might
try the boneyards for front plate hangers, even from other types of cars.
find something and make it work..i'll be cheap from there too..on my car
the plate is right in the intake cowl,so i just drilled holes through it,tons
of holes,but it's there
