There are two holes under your bumper at the top of the radiator opening which are used to mount the license plate. You'll need an L shaped bracket that came with the car to mount the plate.
If all else fails, it's probably available through your dealer.

You might also be able to rig something up yourself by buying some L shaped brackets and cross pieces (looking kind of like an erector set) at Home Depot or some such place.

you cant afford the 15 bucks?

if you get a fixit ticket, just hook it on, have a cop
sign off yer ticket... then take it back off again

i have a friend who never uses a front plate,
I think he's had a few fixit tickets now,
but thats only cuz we get caught at the street races,
and the cops cant get him for anything else, so they
peg im with a lame'o fixit ticket.

never heard of anyone getting pulled over for one
while regularly driving though,

but even if you do... who cares!

A cheap alternative to the factory bracket, is just installing 2 three inch "L" brackets from home depot, you canfind them in the door hinge section, add a pair of nuts and bolts for the license plate, and 2 one inch bolts (i forgot the thread size) and you now can mount the plate anytime you want (cost = $6). I also put some 3m rubber strips on to keep the metal from scratching the bumper. Don't waste your money on the Mazda bracket.

eric

And I have been pulled over for no front plate, just driving along during the day, does anyone know is it is "legal" for a cop to pull you over for this? After all it's not a moving violation (*I think*) just a nitpick law if you asked me.

go cheap

I did the homedepot thing....

Only thing to add is get some rubber sticky bumbers to put on your bumper so when the L brackets flex the bolts on the lic plate don't gouge your bumper!!!

the miata had an aftermarket bracket that would fold up whilt you were driving and then when you slowed down it would drop back down.
It should fit the FD

Missouri also requires a front license plate on their cars. I've had my FD for almost 4 years now and have never put a front plate on it. Haven't received a ticket for it yet, but I probably will now that I've posted this message.

well i'm one of those saps who always seems to attract the dick cops. i get pulled over on a regular basis for no front plate. i just put mine on when im on the highway going to and from school and when im in my hometown. they are all asses there. oh well. and i wouldnt just never put it on and expect to keep getting fixit tickets, they only last so long and then they catch on and you get hit the real thing. just my 2 cents

In SoCal we got some dickheaded cops and you will get tickets for that stuff. I was told by a cop that the licesnce plate must be mounted somewhere visible on the front bumper, in other words, even if it is on your dash...you will get a ticket. $15 for the ticket $10 for some court processing BS, so that's about $25.
Dunno how bad cops are over there...but if you were here I'd advise you stick it on especially since the car probably attracts a lot of attention.

Yeah, I guess it really depends on where
you live.

But I really would suggest that you dont put it on
until you get one fixit ticket, cuz then you know the
cops out there actually ticket for it.

But you never know, you might go years without geting a ticket,
and it looks nice with it off.

I'm in the same area as Tad and have never gotten a ticket either. I did get warned about it once 3 years ago at 2am(cops used the missing front license plate as justification to pull me over). Never did put it on

Just got a $70 ticket for no front plate last month! The cop just wanted to check me out, so that was his excuse. What a dick. He followed me through town for awhile and into a Burger King driveup. Once he say the front of my car, he had me. The thing that sucks is that it was not a fixit ticket in Oregon. I did go to court and the judge dismissed because I put the plate back on. However, he said the second offense would not be dismissable!

Guess I will leave it on?

Well I've been pulled over a few times, once by a ******** motorcycle cop, and another by a cop late at night. The late at night cop I can understand, he really just wanted to make sure I wasn't drinking, but the license plate was his only real reason for pulling me over.

But the motorcycle cop gave me a warning the first time. I put the front plate on with wire ties, got it signed off, and forgot about it. Then, my DAD gets pulled over in my car, by the same cop. By this time, the cop is pissed off, and he is now going to start harrassing me for it. So now he writes my dad a warning ticket for the plate AND my window tint. But I'm not about to take the tint off my window, and they were both on the same ticket, so I couldn't fix it. I attempted to get a prescription for my window tint, but to no avail.. So my dad got slapped with the ticket in the mail. I feel guilty about it, and offered to help pay for it, but I'm unemployed, and don't have much extra money around..

Now, this motorcycle cop passes me going the opposite direction, turns a uey, and pulls me over. this time he wants to give me a ticket for speeding? This cop just has it out for me, and is going to write me a ticket for anything he can. I'm fighting the speeding ticket, because he has no basis for saying that I was speeding. I'm sure he just wrote the speeding ticket, and didn't write a front plate ticket, because he wants to put points on my license.

Theres not much I can do about it...because technically I'm breaking the law, but it still feels like harrassment, and I'm honestly scared of this cop. I guess a letter to his superior officer might help.

jeez..you sure dug this topic up from the grave.

the bracket you can buy OEM from mazda mounts to the top of the duct, and then turns UP. So it's above the duct, not blocking.

In CA you don't have to mount the plate on the front (or Rear) bumper the law only states that the plate has to be legible from the front AND the rear of the car - I had been ticketed for no front plate (b/c mine fell off the Dash and on to the floor ) and I got the FixIt written off with just sticking the plate back in the front window. I drove the car (a Dodge D-50 pu) that way for six years without ever being bothered again. On my other (work) PU we kept the plate tapped into the rear window because it was constantly getting knocked off the bumper.
