i got pulled over for no plate a few weeks ago here in cerritos, it sucks because it was the first day i went cruising in my fd since i got it (i have really bad luck with stuff like that). i was thinking about the 99spec bumper, but now that you guys have shown me those fold up plate holders, i think i might get one to save money.

I went to a local sign-writer and had a sticker made up that looks like a license plate only smaller and moulds to the shape of the car .. the cops who have looked at it thought it was a nice solution .. they said that so long as I keep the original with me (it's in the boot) it would be OK with even the toughest cops down here. I need to carry the 2nd plate so they can be sure that I don't have two cars using the same solution.

hmm, any shops in the US that sells brackets that fold up? it was like $70 bucks on the japanese site right? will they accept US credit cards? er should I feel safe aobut giving that out? will they even ship here?

Yeah, gotta figure something out.

Maybe this is a group buy idea? for all of us folks being forced to make our cars ugly to save hundreds of $$$$$

get a bracket if you dont already have one and put a plate on it.... drive on the highway on a hot muggy night for a little while to get bugs all over it, then take the bracket off with the plate still attached, bend it, and stick it in the trunk.... when/if you get pulled over: "sorry officer, i was jsut double parking yesterday and bumped the car in front of me, the bracket broke off my car... see its in the trunk (with fresh bugs from having it on my car); i had the dealer order me a new bracket so i can put it on"

worked for me a few times, still no ticket

cops in my town *know* me and front plates have been *one* of my ongoing problems. i have paid more $42 tickets for that over the years than i care to say... i just put it back on now.
front plate is not a good thing to get pulled over for (why give them an excuse?) and the cops find something else wrong when they get to the car if you know what i mean....

My car had holes drilled in it from the dealership, so I used those holes for the bottom of the plate, putting it up and out of the way. I bent the plate a bit to keep it as flush with the body as possible. I would prefer no front plate, but then there are two holes in my bumper.

Just curious whats been done, and if there are any good solutions.

I just don't run one, and plan to eat any tickets i get.... I just chalk it up to another crazy expense for these cars like the 2k mile oil changes w/ Mobil1, the premixing, once a year fuel filters, etc., etc.
