Hey guys,

just wondering, for those of us unlucky ones who are required to have front license plates (NYC, they are **** about everything!!!)... what have you guys done? Are there setups that will .. umm.. flip up a bit perhaps when the car is in motion so that my FMIC can get some air? Or do people just stick it on the side? or what? Just curious whats been done, and if there are any good solutions.

there is a bracket fro the stock bumper that puts it up outof the way of airflow (kinda like 99 spec)

 

since my car has been running i haven't had a front plate. cops don't even notice in NJ!

 

yeah... the stock bracket keeps it out of the way... too bad it looks ghey

The cops in my area will pull you over in a heartbeat if they see MD plates on the back and no front plate

 

rfreeman27 - cool. I don't think I've ever come across one... which store would have these in stock? Also, if it pushes up on the bumper... will this thing damage the paint? figure when we speed up, this thing is going to be pushed back against my bumper.

Vosko - i drove around without it for a while as well.. but figure i'd hate to get pulled over for this, only to get like 10000 other tickets for messing with emissions or what not... you know. Trying to avoid any little thing that could get the cop to pull me over...

 

I only got pulled over for no license when I was in a 'cruising' area where people would gather and attract cops. Just everyday city driving, never got pulled over once. Makes an FD look tons better with no front lic.

dont do it, just keep it in your car and tell the cop it just fell off.Works for me ...plenty of times

 

Turbotime - yeah.. i know. Like I said though, want to avoid getting pulled over period. Ya know?

drewroman - do you have the original brackets on your car? I think when i had my car repainted, they got rid of those holes.. i think..

 

The bracket holes will be in the mouth of the car. It won't have holes through your bumper. Feel around the mouth but the top area. The brackets are there.

 

The stock bracket is "L" shapped mounts directly to the bumper reinforcment inside the "Mouth" so no holes are reqd in the bumper cover.

It looks MUCH better in Pictures - you can't see all the dozens of paint chips and pealing clear coat. And the shaadow hides the fact that the driver side headlight cover is darker than the rest of the body

 

Put a small strip of padding on the back of the plate. No harm to the paint, and you can take it off without having anything on the bumper.

 

I dont drive my car much so I am just gonna leave the front license plate off.

yah i have seen those before, i am considering getting one of the flip back brackets once i get a new front bumper...

 

I cut up my Virginia plates, mounted it to a pair of hinges so that when I'm moving above 30 mph it goes up flat.

When I come to a stop, the plate flips back down.

A cop pulled me over for no front plate. I asked him what are you talking about? I do have a front plate and showed it to him.

The guy said in 20 years he ain't seen nothing like it but the proceeded to write me a ticket for mutilating state property.

I got new front plate but still haven't put it on.

 

For any or all who are interested, you can get the front plate holder directly from any Mazda dealership, for a godawful $60.

 

I'm in the same predicament. I just bought a new front mounting bracket from Mazda. I'm going to try a couple of things:
1. mounting it inverted so the plate hangs down - saw this on a couple of cars.
2. mount it normal and cut down the bracket so it doesn't go up so high over the bumper.

In NY, even the freakin parking cops/meter maids will give you a ticket for no front plate and they are expensive these days...

 

Here in japan there a bunch of companies that make brackets which hold the plate on springs. Under normal driving, its flat, vertical. But, over 80Kmh, or about 50mph, it folds in, hiding the plate. this is also good for airflow across the intercooler. My roomate has this on his GTR, and I just have my plate in my windshield. On the tollroads, which is popular for high speed racing, there are speed activated cameras that flash you as you haul *** by them. So, if your plate isnt installed, or visible, no ticket..ha ha. Just an idea....see pics:

If I had the front plate I'd go for the 99+ bumper. Looks clean, doesn't block airflow, OEM quality
