Front License Plate...!

Missouri frigging sucks. I've got to put a front license plate on my FD, though it looks shitty. There is a special bracket for a Miata that allows the plate to fold back as speek increases, so as to not block air flow. Below is a pic of the miata one--does anyone know where I could find one of these for my FD?

I live in Missouri as well and have decided against putting on my front plate. So far I haven't had any problems. It helps that Kansas doesn't require the front plate so it's fairly common to see vehicles around here that don't have them.

**** the plate. Pay your ticket when you get it. Most of the time you just get a warning anyways so the few times that they give you a ticket just pay it and forget about it. That is a horrible law anyways.

NJ has front plates also. I have never gotten a ticket for not having one on. The state inspection station didn't say a word.

Go without...

Much cleaner look.

A further twist on this is that Kansas DOES require you to have a front plate if you have a personalized plate!
I had a personalized plate on my FC, and just didn't like the looks of a plate on the front, so I took off the front one. The one and only time I got a ticket in that car, the HiPo didn't even check it out.....or at least if he noticed, he never said anything about NOT having it....

I saw an ad for a motorized front license plate bracket. From the inside you could flip a switch and "retract" the plate.

Of course I forget where now... I'll look for you and post it if I find it again.

It was badass, but also cost $300!

hehe both my borther and i have foldable plates. we can extend or retract them from the inside...

Since he's got the knight's front lip, he has no problem, but i had to bend the crap out of my plate to fit on the stock bumper. I usually drive around with them up, but whenever the popo's around, bing, down goes the plates. hehe. and no it didn't cost no 300$ more like a tenth of that.

i'll see if i can make a video of it...

Angry Front plates tickets suck

I just got a ticket for no front plates in the airport parking lot overnight. Was I the only one parked at 3am? How do you get a license plate ticket in a parking lot? Maybe I should have left donuts on the windshield.

what is the point of having a license plate that pulls back while speed increases? Cops will still pull you over if they cannot see the plate, regarless if it's visiable during idle or stopped. This is some useless junk people are selling.

Yep, I've had my FD for about 4+ years and never put a front plate on it. Granted you are in St. Louis, so it may not be as common to see cars without front plates (does IL required front plates?).

I've only received one ticket for it when I got a parking ticket (like GoRacer).

Don't put one on until you get pulled over for it.

I'd rather have a kit that folds it out when I'm driving. At least I can't see it while I'm driving. I would hate to look at a plate when I'm just staring at my car.

I see some GM sports cars like Vettes and Firebirds that have an awesome front plate retractor stock!! all those cars drive with it hidden all the time. I have no plate on my FD and have never been given any problems about it, even in all 3 times the cops stopped me!

Errr, that's not a retractor. That is a blank panel installed in the front bumper; you remove it to install a plate. The C5's front plate for instance is installed behind a clear plastic cover so the bumper is still nice and smooth to the air. The Firebird's plate holder is a seperate piece that bolts in place of the blank and actually holds the plate out in front of the car a bit; that's the way I remember it anyway.

I live in NY where you have to have a front plate, but I don't have mine on. I haven't been pulled over yet, and I passed inspection just fine. Sometimes when I know there is going to be some po-po around, I will stick the plate in the windsheild for good measure. If I ever do get pulled over, I'll tell them that there are no provision in my bumber for a front plate, or that the body shop just "forgot" to put it back on, or I just took it back out of storage and forgot to put it on, or I was washing it and must of fogot to put it on etc..
I see plenty of Vette's around here without the front plate, if they can do it, why can't I?
And DamonB is right on, about the Vettes and Firechickens.

glassman: I think you'll find that you actually get pulled over MORE if you just have the plate in your front windsheild. It's more noticeable that way. If you don't have any plate at all, they probably won't notice that it's missing (because our cars don't looks like they need s front plate). but if it's in the front windshield, then they WILL notice, and you are more likely to get pulled over for it.

I usually only get pulled over late on friday or saturday nights.. and even then, they are just looking for an excuse to pull me over to check if I've been drinking/have a warrant (which I really don't mind).

But there is one bike cop in my city that won't leave me alone. Now, I have a pretty obvious car, it's a red FD, the only one in the city. So when he sees me coming, he pulls me over. Now he's thought of other things he can write me up for, like my window tint and exhaust. He's an *******, as are ALL the bike cops in my city.

Here in Texas they require cars to have a front license plate as well. I had a Mazda MX-3 w/ the full Mazdaspeed bodykit on it (fiberglass) and I never put my plate back on, I drove w/ it off for a while but then I took some suction cups and put attached it to my windshield right in front of the rear view mirror. I know that some of you may think that this is "rice" , but it also carries some pratical applications as well.

It doesn't restrict view in front of the rearview mirror, technically you are displaying a front license plate and you don't have to drill holes anywhere. I had been pulled over a couple of times, and the cops never said anything about it.

I have some pictures if anyone wants to see.
