Front Bearing Swap

Hey folks,

Going to go after the front passenger wheel bearing/hub combination. I was curious how much pounding, effort, etc. it is to get the hub off once the retaining nut is off. Also, if the caliper has to come off in the process, I would like to know how hard that is. Thanks!

The caliper comes off with two bolts on the back.

The rotor comes off with two screws in it's front.

Remove the cover over the hub nut.

Remove the cotter pin and the hub nut.

Hub will just slide off; no pounding needed.

No cotter pin on a stock FD hub - uses a nut w/ a staked collar - FSM recomends replacing the nut w/ each removal - But I found you can "Un-Stake" the nut w/ a slim punch and reuse the nut once or twice if the threads are in good shape, befor the collar gets too mangled to reuse. (fwiw my FIAT 128 used the same style nut on its fwd hubs)

You sure that's true for the FRONT? I swear there is a standard cotter key and castle nut on mine. The rears however do have nuts that are staked into a groove in the axle; no cotter keys on the rear.

You're right; I just verified it on the parts fiche. The front and rear axles use the same nut. I flat remember WRONG.
