Fringe benefit of driving the FD in the winter
Yesterday Boston got hit with a major snow storm around 7:00. My original plan was to drive the FD in to school and wait out the storm. However, for a variety of reasons I decided to head home around 8:00pm instead.
This turned out to be a bad idea. I got stuck 200 feet from my parking spot in a thick patch of snow that I couldn't avoid due to traffic. I spent about 30 minutes trying to get out with no success. It was particularly frustrating because after I got stuck a group of snow plows came by and completely cleared the road.
I put a call into triple A and was resigned to waiting for the flat bed when a bunch of cute girls in the middle of a jog came by and offered to push. Naturally, I told them that I was there by choice and perfectly capable of getting out. One of them said something like, yeah, whatever, get in the car. Yes mamm! 30 seconds later I was looking in my rear view mirror watching a bunch of college girls pushing as hard as they could while being engulfed in exhaust smoke and a steady rooster tail of snow coming off the wheels. It looked so wrong and at the same time seemed so right
I was planning on buying them all a drink for the help, but once we got the car free I decided I didn't want to risk losing my momentum, so I gave a quick wave and drove off
(Note-If I was single I would have hit the bar).
Anyway, I think it's a good story to keep in mind the next time someone says the FD isn't a good winter car

Moral of that story? If your going to drive the 7 in the snow....you better get something good out of it
I wouldn't trust my car in the snow, hell I barely tust it on dry pavement. If they didn't salt the roads I probally wouldn't care as much though.
Good story though
