Friend is getting a FD...

I have a friend that is going to get an FD. He found a 1993 montego blue with 75K miles. It has a 3 year warentee and the guy wants 15,900.00 for it. Is this a good price. I am trying to tell him it is a great price, but he wants to hear from other people, and what they think. The body is in great condition, its a base model with tan leather interior. No scratches or body dents at all. From what i've seen, it runs great.

Need some input thanks.

If that is the original motor and turbos I would say that is not really a great price, a little on the high side. I know it is tough to pass these things up.. just depends how badly he wants one and how much he has to spend. I would bet he could find a better deal if were more patient.

How good is the warrantee? Is it 3 years from the day of purchase, or was it previously bought and has X years left? Would it fix the turbos/engine if they died?

If yes, then I'd say it's a good buy. Maybe have him offer 15k cash or so see what the guy does.

Yeah, it covers the whole engine, the warrantee is 3 years from the dealer he's buying it from, it has the warrantee through rotary preformance. www.lamotorcars.com He has been selling RX-7's for a long time now.

oh my god; if its still under warrenty, buy that sucker now and drive it hard!!! really hard! have a lot fun with it!!! true that is a bit much for that car but i think the extra money is well worth the 3 years of warrantee plus the car.

My '93 R1 with 53K miles on it was 15K. I'd haggle.

I bought a car sight unseen from LA Motorcars in TX. It had 22K, excellent shape, and he was very fair in doing business. I would buy from him again.

Yeah, he's a really good guy, and gives good deals. The r-1 on the other hand is a stronger running rx7 he said, but interior and cosmetic things are not as good as the blue one. the blue one is really clean and nothing wrong with it. So I'm going to tell my friend to get the car, i'm sure the 3 year warrantee will be really good, and yea, i told him he could drive the crap out of it hehe...at least for the warrantee. We'll see what he says. thanks guys

I'd only take that price if the engine compression test and turbo boost looked good. Without those quantitative results, you're playing Russian Roulette.

FWIW, I paid 14K for my 1994 PEP Montego Blue with 67K miles on it. Interior and Exterior were super clean. Compression came back just about all 8.0's; didn't check boost pattern. Good luck to your friend.
