Go to Aluminumflywheels.com . I have delt with them alot and thier stuff is great. A removeable surface plate, which is only a $100 or so.

chromoly or bust

I'd rather not have my flywheel shatter and tear through the car and into my leg cabin. If you have any type of high HP application, single turbo etc etc, I would definitly not skimp on this part and go directly over to a chromoly unit such as those included in the exedy hyper single package or others that are available.

Sure, an aluminum flywheel is lightweight and cheap, but ask yourself this question; how much are your legs worth.

Name somebody you know personally who has lost their legs due to a flywheel shattering. I think youre just being overly paranoid.

He has to know someone that it happened to personally in order for it to be possible? Check NHRA and IHRA rules some time.

My dad's friend had a lightweight aluminum fly in a muscle car and it shattered and took off half his foot. Right through the god damn shoe. He was running about 700 hp, but still man, we drive these cars extremely hard and if you aren't willing to throw a couple more 100's down to rid yourself of the possibility, then good luck to you. On the other hand, I splurged on a chromoly unit with no looking back, and will be happy knowing the thing will never bust into the cabin.

FYI, the dude hasn't raced since.

Luckily I did have a personal story to quiet him down. Just as you said, there is a reason they are required.

Think an automatic trans explosion is not violent? Note the footwell of Liz Kulyassa’s 1993 Top Ten Fastest Street Car Camaro. When the driveshaft broke, it killed the trans and kicked this hole in the floor next to her feet. The trans was not equipped with a trans shield or a flexplate shield. It should have had both! Luckily, Liz escaped injury. The explosion also punched a fist-sized hole in the cowl
