The Fortunate 350 [CYM]

Just got to thinking that in all the talk that goes on this site the one thing missing is a section dedicated to the most desirable 3rd Gen car of all the CYM. So maybe we can all share a story of a CYM that we know of that has had a pampered life or for that matter a brutal life.If you could include pics that would be great. Some of the question ,I have are what is the lowest mileage CYM in existence? Who is getting Bashed for asking 10k for a CYM Roller? Rotor lol just kidding.Did you have an opportunity to get one and you let it go by?Is there a database of the whereabouts of these cars in the states? Is there a registry to confirm these cars what people claim they are.Like the Shelby Registry? In all if you have a story share it with us and if it includes pictures of the current status of one that would be great. If you know of people that might be selling one or should since the car is rotting away in their driveaway tell us. You get the point.Look forward to hearing the feedback.

I don't think the CYM is the most desirable FD. In fact, I think all of the 93's are the least desirable. The 93's had crummy interiors, and a few others problems that were upgraded or fixed in 94 & 95.

Its obvious that the most desirable car is a 94 or 95 Chaste White FD

I think Base Chaste white is the most desirable to me.

CYM is a close 2nd.

Silver with red interior for me.

Those CYMs have very poor paint too. Unless one was stored in a heated garage all its life I wouldn't touch it.

Well I have two CYM's, they are desirable to at least a few of us Don't think a registry would work too well though, not enough people are on the forum that own these cars. And while the color was only produced in 93 as a special edition, there are more rare combination out there. However the CYM's still seem to demand a little more when they go up for sale, as long as it's original.

Bah, the Fd should have only in any color you wanted so long as it was red.
That is the best color to show off the curves of this sexy body.

On another note - Why do so many CYM owners I've met usually have more than 1?

I think the opposite...i cant stand the 94-95 interior. Sure they may have "upgraded it", but i think the textured finish looks like ***. The smooth finish of the 93 looks best, especially if its in pristine shape as mine is.

I also like the white FD but dont you have to take into account that the CYM is an R1?You have to take into everything into account and when these cars were made the R1,R2 were the top dog!

I'm fine with my 93. I don't mind the interior. I mean yeah the interior may not be the greatest or they may have a few more problems that a 94 or 95 may have. If you live in a place where the fd can rarely be seen and they only fds around are 93s you would prolly be fine with it too. I'm happy with my car and don't want it to change.

I agree. There is no real reason to care, they aren't that much different than the base models. I am glad I don't have a touring model though. I'm not a fan of the sunroof or bose system.

So I guess all the people that paid that money back when they were new were retarted right.Or the fact that over 50% of the cars for sale on this site advertise theire cars as R1 is just coincidence.Oh Also I guess that , say 20 years time when these cars are at Barrett Jackson, the car with the non original motor or no original parts is going to be worth more than the original one. Yeah that makes a lot of sense if you also believe that the difference between a Mustang and a Shelby is just a few things. The difference is about 100k in todays market. The difference might be minor to some but in the world of cars is the little things that count.NO?

^^ No one really cares.

I mean the only reason I would want a R1/R2 is for the extra oil cooler.

I get more requests from people looking for white fds then any other fd. They are without a doubt the most desired and are extremely easy to sell. I am a huge fd fan, one of the few true enthusiasts, but I personally could not own a yellow car as my personal vehicle. Ive owned Cyms, they definitely attract attention, but I dont own cars for the attention. I recently had a great opportunity to get back into an e36 BMW m3 which is one of the very few other cars I like, but it was yellow so I passed even though it was an incredible deal.

The highest priced fds back in the 93 were the red/tan auto cars at right around $39-42k depending on the dealership. Which is funny now as red/tan is the least desired especially in auto form.

I dont think Mazda ever intended the CYM to be a rare car, they simply couldnt sell the car in that color so they switched to white in 94. The cars that were the most desired in 93-95 are now the least desired in this day and time.

Mazda has had a few one year yellow cars - they did that with the Miata and RX-8 as well.

Yellow is a VERY polarizing color - you either love it or hate it. I LOVE it. I would have loved to have bought a CYM, but there was just too much of a premium at the time. Also, I do agree, the '94s have MUCH more solid interiors.

Now painting my black '94 R2 CYM - that would be IT.

Of course, my wife is NOT a yellow person and I could never get away with it .

Funny part is I really don't like white FD's. To me white washes the lines of the car away. There are so many subtle curves that really make the FD what it is. Now, FC's look GREAT in white, but I think it's because it's a more angular car.

Speaking of, YEARS ago I made a pretty cool CYM T-shirt -

http://www.cafepress.com/rx7cym

They're still available, too. Wish I had the car to match it .

I wish the FD's came with the Sunburst Yellow that the 98 Rx-7 RS-Rs and the 2001 Type R Bathurst R's came with.

I almost bought a CYM. The guy was Quicksilver on here I think. It didn't sell on Ebay, somebody exposed his reserve and he got pissed.
He wanted around 27 or 28k for it. It looked to be perfect with 19K miles.
I offered him 26K and he got pissed at me. Said I was low balling him.lol
He sold it a year later for 25K. As much as I desire a CYM, I truely love my undesirable vintage red with tan seats. It's f ing perfect.

i thought i was buying a cym when i bought my car. i was uneducated about the rx7's when i made my orig purchase. and was unaware that the car had even been repainted. i love the color, but i need and want a new front bumper and have no idea the color code used to paint the car. although i do love the sunroof. (its a touring)
