what is the size of the bolts that thread into the flywheel?

 

I never took the time to measure, but the last time i did an install, i ordered fresh bolt from malloy. It was like 12 or 13 bucks i think, that seems like a lot of 6 bolts but i decided it was worth it.

 

Get the proper ones from mazda, they're not that expensive, and as I recall they're a pain in the **** to find locally

 

I was wanting to know the same thing, what was the socket size?

 

The huge nut that holds the stock flywheel to the eshaft is 54mm or 2 1/8th inch.

The six bolts that hold the clutch cover to the flywheel have a 14mm head IIRC.

 

Yeah, Sears didn't have any thing that big.

 

i bought a set of huge sockets at harbor freight to take off the flywheel.

 

Sears should, thats where I got mine for about $30.
Maybe they special order it?
Plus it helps to have a big 1/4" sliding breaker bar

 

the biggest they had in metric was 32mm I didnt even look at the STD sockets.

 

Yeah, I'm pretty sure its in the Std. Sockets section. They have them up to I think 2 3/4"

 

Look for 2 1/8". It will be about half the price of a 54mm (if you find one).

 

Yeah I had an auto parts store look up a 54mm, after shipping it was going to be ~$50 (and that was with me getting a deal on it!). I got mine from sears, 2 1/8", works like a charm! Paid $27.99+tax.

 

I also got mine in the std. section at Sears.

they also generally only come in 3/4" drive so most people will need a 3/4 to 1/2 adapter

 

BTW, i bought some 8mmx1.0mm bolts from home depot and they fit into the flywheel.

 

and i finially got the motor torqued down, in 2 weeks when school gets out i can go back to my dads house and put the motor in.

 

I used part # 9978-41-020 for my ACT prolite flywheel. These are a little bit longer than the bolts offered by the parts manual. These longer ones work beautify, they are flush with the bottom of the counterweight.
