fixed my rear squeaks on track car

i fixed my annoying sqeak in the rear suspension on the track car, for reference I have JIC coilovers, jim's nylon bushings in the upper arms, rotaryextreme toe links and trailing arms:

- first i removed the entire coil overs from the car, its pretty easy if you have the car lifted, just remove the top perch nuts and the rear sway bar link bolt.

- I cleaned the coil overs up and applied grease to the following, pillow ball at the top perch, between spring and bottom perch, between spring and top rubber washer that sits between the spring and top perch, a thin layer to where the perch sits against the car frame, a thin layer by the ends of the spring where the coils may rub on compression, a thin layer around the top of the shock shaft where the bottom-out-protector-bushing-thingy sits.

- i zerked the nylon rear bushings whe i installed them so i hit them with some grease while the coil overs were out, that way i could freely move the suspension in its full travel path up and down to really get the grease in there.

I jumped up and down in the rear hatch floor and ... NO SQEAKS!!! nothing, silent.... drive home... nothign , ...silent rear
:- ) i was happy :-)

see Poman-- It is THIS easy!!

Sorry Damian to stick that in here.

Great job on taking the time to search out and destroy the squeaky bastard.
Which do you think was the culprit? I know that is speculation. Were there any clear signs of what/which part it was? Or do you think a combination of all. either way good job. That'll pick up 2 MPH in the corners

hey 7racer, dunno what kind of grease, just some heavy duty stuff out of the shops grease gun :-)

bigisland7s, i dunno for sure since i just tried to lube everything in there, but i think it was the top perch of the coilover that was making the noise.

my top perched never squeeked until I installed jimlab's bushings....I think this stiffened up the suspension that brought out the noise. I definitely can hear the noise from inside the car from the top of the perches.....however instead of grease I was going to put a thin layer of rubber ordered from mcmasters....

now the clunking I bet is from the bushings...that I need to trouble shoot.

That's great Damian, but what I'd really like to know is how well the SLA fit

Sadly his other car is at a shop till Friday or Monday, I'm almost thinking of overnighting it to Jeff and letting him fit it since he has more immediate access to a car with air pump and OEM style twin turbos, although I want us both to fit it before giving it to the foundry since it's a big investment and there isn't any, "oh change this" after the molds are done : )

There's a group buy on those six bushings going on right now in the Group Buy forum, and there are How-Tos in the Suspension forum archive.

The point was he took the initiative to actually go look for the noise ( whatver the sound) and find it...Not just bitch and blame others. And it probably only took him one evening if that. Same goes for the fronts.

And it is actually your posts that make most on hear delirious
you don't do much research before blaming someone else. You should know about defamation and slander.

Sorry again Damian .I will not do that again I promise. Your thread doesn't deserve to be dragged thru his mud My bad. apologies

What do you think I have been doing by removing the sway bar, installing new bushings, ordering sway bar links?

Obviously you don't know, including the difference b/w the two.

Back to thread.

Damian, why did you grease the pillow ball mount? The tires throw up alot of crud right into the coil overs so this makes me wonder if it would turn your coil over into a dirt collector, which could cause problem with the telescoping shock rod.

I have the pillow ball mount on the GC coil over for the last 6 years and have never had to grease to prevent noise. In fact, I try to clean the shock so that they don't have crud on them.

SLA is the Stereo Lithography model of the tube I need to test fit on your car, same thing as that white one I brought over last time, just with some revisions.

i mainly greased the tops, they are inside the car and dont see any road grime, and on mine the bottoms are actually covered by the the bottom-out-protector-bushing-thingy, so it actually never sees grime either, ...i did not grease the end if the bottom-out-protector-bushing-thingy or the shaft for the same reason you though of, I did not want to collect crap.
