Fitting 850's primarys?

Hi all, this is realy for those that have done this Mod.

I've been doing a bit of reading up on this Mod (fitting 850 side feeders to the Primarys).

There is quite a bit about it on here but when ever i think i'm getting some where i see this link www.wvinter.net/~flanham/wlanham and the thread dies, Problem is that link doesn't work anymore.

So from what i have read to date, you need to skim the Rail Mounting and fit a Diffrent Base seal to the Injector.

BUT!! How much do you need to take off the rail?? and What lower seal does the Injector need?

Would fitting the Stock Secondary seal make it leak fuel?

Cheers
Chris

It's been awhile since I did it, but it sounds like you're confusing two different methods. In the old days, and I believe what is suggested in that link, people added an additional seal to the injector to (hopefully) prevent it from leaking. What is done today is to mill the primary rail and fit a secondary injector with only its native seals in place. I don't recall how much material is milled off the rail, as I had a forum member do it for me.

Unless you require an enormous amount of fuel, like 850 pri and 1680 sec, then it's recommended to just go with 1200 or 1300 secondaries. Had I done more research into the tuning difficulties of obtaining a smooth idle and lean cruise (with the PFC and 4x850s), I would have gone with larger secondaries instead. There are some tricks, and I'm just getting my wideband set up, so I'm going to give it the old college try since I really don't feel like getting back in there again.

Any machine shop can take off the 1/8 of an inch off the rail and just use brand new mazda fuel rail seals...

What do you do if you've got aftermarket rails, like KGParts?

If you have aftermarket rails then you're using top feed injectors rather than stock side feeds.

What problem are you having?
