hey guys, i think im really ready to do this, but just wanted some help from those that have done the job of taken your engine out yourselves. Are there any DVDs that will start from the POINT A to POINT B? i just would like to remove it and clean the engine bay. i have been on the DIY- RE13b site, but i think it shows me how to rebuild the eninge and not take it 0ut. so if you can please help, feel free to chime in. thanks again.

 

i just removed mine a few weeks ago, take your time and label everything, use masking tape and black markers, take it out "layer" at a time. Strip off the intake, intercooler, all piping, then move closer to the block, turbos, exhaust, manifold and so on and so forth. It is actually pretty easy to do if you take your time and think it through. just my $0.02

 

One tip: leave both the A/C compressor and power steering pump in the car when you pull the engine.

UH, that's missing like...a lot of steps. It shows a complete engine bay, and then a car on ramps, and then an engine sitting on the floor.

turbo's can remain on the engine...even the DP, to remove.

 

Yeah, If you can manage to keep the dp on the car, do it. cause knuckle busters hurt. And they will happen unless you got airtools. I just don't like air tools on rusty heated studs. I am afraid of breaking one.

 

one thing to do, is to get a whole crapload of ziplock bags, and write on them with a black marker the name of the parts you are putting in there. This is especially handy if you are planning to reuse any bolts.(I've done this with cars before, only to find the bolt kit is missing one or two odd bolts, so I've been thankful I didn't junk the old ones)

Then when it comes time to reassemble, it's a much easier porcess.

I left the Powersteering pump on the engine but unbolted the AC before I ever lifted the engine out. I was kinda interesting, but not hard to get it unbolted.

Looking back, I wish I would have just unbolted the powersteering pump and left it in the engine bay along with the AC pump.
