I was a little dissapointed and the car didn't feel like it pulled as hard as it usually does, not sure what was up with it.

 

how long was the car idling? before it was your turn? might be heatsoaked to hell..... west texas has been seeing 100*F the past week with night temps in the 90's.....

what mods?


i see you have an automatic, whats the condition of the car?

 

what tires are you running? looks like street tires. if you want to reduce your time, get yourself a set of mickey thompson drag radials and get your 60 ft time down to a 1.7-1.8

 

it was only idleing for a few minutes. The mods are intake, intercooler, fuel pump and no cats. The car is in pretty good condition.

 

M/T wont help him as much because he can't drop the clutch at high rpm like a manual transmission. Also will affect the already too low final drive adversely.

For comparison's sake I've been to the Strip once with my automatic, fully stock with only a DP and some new stock size star-spec tires. Best run I had was:

R/T - .049
60' - 2.255
1/8 at 9.194 @ 80.31 mph
1/4 at 14.202 @97.96

Were you getting a lot of wheel-spin? I pretty much had none. Also, I took out pretty much everything in the hatch, spare, tools, Bose wave, etc. How did you launch? Brake boost or just mash the go pedal when you saw the light? Also, did you manually shift the transmission or did you just leave it be?

 

I brakeboosted it, but i didn't shift it. I had to drive thru the waterbox so i probably did spin and that is probably why it felt like it didn't pull as hard. Also I doubt radials or slicks would help me either because I can't even do a burnout to heat them up right. Did you shift yours and how did you launch yours? cuz your 60 foot is way better than mine.

 

I'd expect with your mods that you would have done a bit better then you did. Hand shifting it only lets it get 500 more RPM and from experience it seems like I mess it up more then I get it right.

Do you know what your race weight was? Did you pull anything out? How much gas was in the tank? You weigh?

What PSI were your tires at, what type/age?

 

Ive told this story but will say it again.

Took 2 fds, one auto and one 5 speed, to the drag strip with the same mods minus the brand of the catback.
Stock intake boxes, stock ICs, both sequential, both on 10lbs, 3" exhaust from the trubo back, and both had the airpump deleted.

Same driver, manual car went 8.3 or 8.4 and the auto went 9.3 of 9.4(its been years cant remember). Just remember there was a 1 second difference in the 1/8th mile. The FD auto trans just isnt designed for the drag strip.

However, a 2.8 60ft either means you did a burnout off the line or went for a Sunday cruise down the strip. :why:

 

My race weight was probably 3250 - 3350 or so with me my dad and everything in the car. I didn't take anything out. I had about a half tank of gas. I don't know what psi my tires were at, but they are in good condition and they are Michelin Pilot xgt z4's.

 

My car is an automatic too, we are comparing autos to autos here

...his just has a lot more mods then mine.

Sorry this was last year, I don't remember what was better or worse between each launch. I'd say that you probably had some moisture in your treads from the water box and due to them being street tires. This likely caused your slippage. That and I think you had about 200-250 lbs on me.

 

I agree ours was not designed this way. It is hampered by poor gearing internally, also in the diff, a lower redline, and lower launch RPM.

We do get quicker, more predictable shifts and also don't vent boost during the process. Also, torque multiplication from the TC which helps, but cannot make up for the other deficiencies.

I just installed a 4.44 gear to get my gearing closer to a 5 speed, but it is still lacking. I want to hit the strip with it soon to see what improvement there is. I doubt that my 60 will drop much since I still have to launch at 3k. We'll see what she does though.

 

Note that the Auto Tranny in the FD actually came off the Mazda 929 and the MPV.

 

And the Nissan 240sx, Nissan 300zx, Infinity m30, what is your point?

The 4L60 was used in the Chevy Astro and Buick Roadmaster but did that keep them from putting one in the corvette?
