Warpaint_88 11-18-10 08:26 PM

Well here is my winter project.

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/2428/photo4tf.jpg

Going to repair all my interior panels. Most of them don't have any stud what so ever and I was going to replace them till I found a good write up n how to fix them.

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/1589/photo5gd.jpg

While I'm taking the interior apart I decide to remove the steering column so I can get the new ignition and key set since half of my only key still in there.

KKMpunkrock2011 12-20-10 12:20 PM

ha ha, looks like my interior right now!
wanna post the link to the write up for fixing the panels?

I'm going to do it slightly different procedure. If you go to the Plast-aid web site it has some good video by using molds. I plan to use that system for some of the bigger stud but I also got me some hallowed plastic rods about the same size as the factory ones that I will just glue in. I will post pictures when I get started on this later on this week.

This where I'm sitting at today. Getting ready to upgrade to a V-mount and going to clean under the rat nest.

Truly a great thread and I love the direction you are taking the car.

Enkeis and fresh paint look great -- congrats.

Thanks

Finally got around to do this today. Don't mind the background mess. Working on all my interior panels today. Some of them required the use of fiberglass to remake tabs and where broken piece where at. I also removed the rat nest and replaced all the fuel lines since they were hacked up.

As you can see all my studs were broken on my gauge panel. I got some of this plastic tubing at my local hobby store (Hobbytown USA). It is 1/4" thick. This was my test run using Plast-aid. For the rest of them I will wait till the glue is a bit thicker so it doesn't run down.

Here is where I am with one of my interior panels. The center switches section was broken. Since they are useless on this car I decided to cut it out and shave the area. Fiberglass work is MESSY!!!

Yes the panel had about 3 different colors (black, silver and red)

Wow love the progress. I especially looking forward to the interior work when its completed!

Also working on this. Pulled the rat nets out, temporarily replaced all the fuel and coolant lines with rubber lines and cleaned up the wiring harness. I have a new wiring harness but that will get the mil-spec mod with the new injectors clips. When I get ready to put the new 1680cc in then I will swap the harness out and put the SS lines. Currently waiting to put my steering column to go in. Just need to decide what I'm going to do about my key issue. Also going to replace the radiator. I was planning on going v-mount but my wife says "if ain't broke, why fix it?", so keeping the Pettit SMIC.

Want to polish my UIM but that is just such a PITA that I'm just going to paint it.

Just hope my work schedule permits me to be done by the end of Feb beginning of March just to be ready for DGRR.

KKMpunkrock2011 01-05-11 10:26 AM

ugh... putting 1680s in with the UIM still on the motor is such a pain. What rail will you be using?

MR_Rick 01-05-11 11:51 AM

I be putting th 1680 with a GT-35R so taking the UIM off should take me 5 mins to do it. I'm going to use the RX-7 store extreme fuel kit.

KKMpunkrock2011 01-05-11 02:35 PM

yeah, since you'll be that far in, pull the UIM and save yourself the hassle. Bolting the fuel rail on is a bit of a pain when the UIM is on the motor. Took me about an hour and a half, three beers, and a lot of swearing

MR_Rick 01-05-11 03:22 PM

Well the reason why I don't want to put them on now, is because I don't want to take the car on a 5 hour trip to get it tuned then turn around in 4-5 month and do it all over again. Taking it off is no problem, I'm used to it. Remember this is my 4th FD and worked on countless others ;)

My fuel rail is ready to go in. already got the return hard line flares with the fitting attached. All I have to do it swap them out. I can have everything off and back on in about 30 mins.

Just going to have it ready for DGRR but I don't have that much time between here and mid march. I'm going out to sea for 2 month in a few days.

Small update. Finally got my ignition fixed and I have a new key. Had a locksmith fish it out. He was cursing and pissy but determined to get it out. Just need to get a prettier key. An one know where I can get a nicer key other than the Efini one?
