what part of the beach to do you live at? I'm right beside the amphitheater

MR_Rick 09-20-10 10:09 AM

Corner of Indy and Shore Dr. right outside Little Creek base.

Nice car. I'm in Portsmouth (bah, wan't to move, but it's ok for now). I'd like to see the car in person. Looks good. Too bad my CYM is still in Hawaii (and still not running..grrr). Are you running 265's on all corners? How does is ride up front? Any triming of the fender liner at all?
(and on the Puerto Rico note. My family is from Aguas Buenas and Caye, and I love going to the races when I go visit. Seeing a f'ing Pinto with a carb'd and turbo'd 13B fly down the track is just priceless!! Not to mention almost all the Toyotas have rotaries in them, it's like rotary heaven..haha).

On that note (not to thread jack but..) do you or anyone here know of a shipping company that will ship a non running car for a reasonable price from Hawaii to Norfolk? All that I have asked want over 3K for a non running car.

Jose

MR_Rick 09-20-10 01:55 PM

Yes I'm running 265s all around. My front fenders are rolled but I have to get one side rolled a hair more because it rubs slighty on turns.

As for sending a non running car fro Hawaii here I would either make it run then ship it or sell it then buy another here.

Pardon my potentially stupid question, but how are you getting radio reception now without the antenna? I talked to a local audio shop and they could do a slim antenna that mounts on the back hatch glass, but they guy insisted it had poor reception quality.

Do you notice any poor audio quality with your setup? What antenna did you use?

Thanks!

MR_Rick 09-20-10 06:46 PM

I got me one of this. It actually works better than the factory one. Beside I only listen to one radio station and it has an app for my iPhone so I was listening to it that way (the radio has iPhone cap) before the I got the hideaway antenna.

Turbo8 09-20-10 09:47 PM

Awesome, thanks for the info :)

mrb63083 09-21-10 02:01 AM

Looks great; thank you for keeping the body stock. :)

I'd love to know where you got the car stripped and six coats of paint for $3k, that's a deal

KKMpunkrock2011 09-25-10 12:38 AM

if you do all the prep work yourself and just have a pro do the paint and clear I can't imagine it would be too much more than that.

Or there's these places called tech schools, all you pay for is supplies, a buddy of mine is repainting my front bumper at the one down the road for 150

Really? This is the first time I get a full paint job. Every one was charging around the same. He was the only one that I saw his work on classics so I went with him. There is another place here that is very good and it was the place that every one recommended but they wanted $6k for it.

rizzxx7 09-25-10 08:13 PM

Who painted your car?

MR_Rick 09-25-10 10:18 PM

Car Graphiks. Very please with their work. They had no problem with me coming in to check the progress of the car as it was getting prepped for paint. They had to re-construct a portion of the rear driver side panel, between the light and the top of the fender. The car was hit in the corner by 2 previous owner back. Apparently some backyard body work with a hammer and bondo was the method of repair. The original panel was cracked beyond repair so my body shop cut it out and fabricated a new one and it got welded in place. You can't tell that it was re-constructed, it looks like new. The spoiler and antenna holes? you can't tell they were there.

When I went to check on the work, I meant to take pictures of the process of the car. I forgot the first time because I was mad at the damage that was found. He assured me that he was going to make it look new or better and was going to stick to the quote he gave me. Came the day before it was going for paint and I was so excited to see the car in primer and bare metal in some spot that I forgot to snap pictures again. The smoothness of the body was so much better and the panels were even all across the car that it actually looked better than when it came in.

When I went to pick up the car, I was about 400 yards down the road and the car was just rolling outside for me to pick up. I could tell how different the paint was already. In January I be taking the car back to get my 99 spec bumper painted by them again.

Their customer service was awesome too. I had to park my car outside for a few hours while I re arrange my garage. Well the car got tree sap all over the back. I called them and they told me to try a gallon of warm water with a cap full of dish soap. If that didn’t work to bring the car back and they will take care of it free of charge. Yeah they got my business.

1QWIK7 09-26-10 08:05 AM

Yeah 3k over 6k. That would make me bring my car over there too lol.

Besides the driver panel work, did your car need any other body work?

I would assume it would be alot more than 3k if so.

My body and paint is in great shape for a 93, its just those stupid dings that make the car look uglier. Thats why im considering doing a whole respray.

MR_Rick 09-26-10 08:40 AM

Well the car needed more work than what was expected, but he stuck to his word and kept his quoted price. Originally was quoted $2700 but he had to add $250 for the panel refab. al so he didn't painted the door jams because those are actually pretty good so it didn't needed those touched up. Sothat might have been one of the reason why it was low.

Was bored today and got this idea from another forum member. It makes a huge difference.

Did you paint the wing or have it painted? I took mine to my body shop and he didn't even want to work with it because it was so rough.

MR_Rick 11-06-10 05:31 PM

My wing is actually pretty good. I haven't painted it yet but I do plan on it when I get my new bumpers.

woah how did you do that

MR_Rick 11-06-10 07:02 PM

Sanding, sanding, polishing, painting and polishing.

Copeland 11-16-10 10:07 PM

Car looks great, keep it up.

MR_Rick 11-18-10 04:25 PM

Today I went ahead and tackled my scuff plates. They were all dinged up and scratched to hell. The letters were falling off and I didn't know they were gold til I took them off. So I sanded them down and gave it the brushed aluminum look (can't tell in the pics really).

The one on the top is what I pretty much started with. The one on the bottom is the finished product.

I though about covering them with some carbon fiber wrap I had laying around. Didn't like the look.

I really like the brushed aluminum look, I think it adds a bit of class.

Warpaint_88 11-18-10 08:01 PM

Always good to see another FD in the area, maybe one of these days I will actually see them in person. Im stationed over on NOB, live in Portsmouth.

MR_Rick 11-18-10 08:09 PM

Station in NOB too.
