Trickshot you won't be around long enough to appreciate it as I expect you'll have sold your car but it's all speculation. I'm willing to bet you that the Japanese cars of the early to mid 90s. RX7 TT, 300ZX TT, Supra TT, MR2 Turbo and NSX will be the hotrods of the 60s. There has not been a hit to the automotive industry this big since then. Sit back and watch...time is all we need

Regarding the reason for the original post...CONGRATS she's a beat

The above quote is what is known as evading a direct question. The answer is simple: the price for this car 3 years ago was several thousand dollars higher.
gmonsen, like a lot of owners, doesn't want to admit his car is depreciating.
It's just a fact of life. Despite repeated attempts on this Forum, you can't talk up the price of these cars.

I see another poster appears to be questioning my "ownership credentials," so to speak. I am the original owner of a 95 RX-7 which is in excellent condition. As you can see by my join date I am not a newcomer to this Forum. Even though I have no intention of selling, I have been tracking the value of my car in the major price guides since before I joined this Forum. No matter how you slice it, the trendline is unmistakeable. The FD depreciates. I choose to be realistic about it. Others engage in wishful thinking.

Good point.

And that's why Max's information has been so valuable. We can see what a buyer actually paid in something that we know is a done deal. We don't often get that info.

I don't think Max would mind me revealing that I have been in communication with him for a couple of months during his purchase. I hope I have offered him some helpful advice. I think he got a great car at a good price. I'm happy for him. The only consternation seems to come from people who think their little gem should be on an up escalator. Deep down they may find the thought of a pristine, low mileage FD going for only $20,500 disconcerting.
I say the glass is half full. You wouldn't want to be like my body shop owner friend who was afraid to park his mid-60's Corvette and go in and see a movie.

That said from my observations - a very low mileage car will always bring top dollar but if you buy it and then put mileage on it the price will drop from the 25K range to the 20K range. So IMO if you are not gonna mothball a low mileage car, dont expect it to keep its price. Better to get a good condition 30K mile car for 15-20,000 and drive it. If you keep it up the price would still remain in that range.

Hello Gordon,

My car was indeed at KDR a month and a half ago. I think he had my car for about two months or a little more till I got my act together with getting down there to see the car and transport afterwards. The buffing wasn't really needed but since it sat outside during the daytime a layer or film of some sort of pollen or something (Dave explained) develops there over the cars surface. It even felt rough. I gave it a quick washing (no waxing or buffing) and she shines. The interior is near perfect with no scratches on any plastics however the driver seat did have a little wear on the drivers exterior bolster only. The inside driver bolster and passenger seat are perfect. I am having that addressed next week with a specialty shop that claims they can re-dye it to OEM specs and color. I don't pay till after and only if it is exact so nothing to lose. Aside from that I am looking for the usual black trim around the shifter, climate control, and gauge cluster. They are near perfect but I want new ones anyway.

Thanks

Max

I'm sure you did, but check and make sure the factory recalls were done!! Don't want to see that beautiful FD go up in flames!!!

Upgrade the rad and install efini y pipe!! Get thee to a mechanic and put in the reliability mods. Make sure compression stays high! I concur about the recalls!

Keep the stock parts for when you finally part with her.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, it would seem the American muscle car frenzy would need to end first and while prices are down on those some due to the economy, it shows no signs of being over--yet.

In the meantime NSX, Supra and FD have done a pretty good job of holding value.
