why worry about it anyway? Why not just give them the VIN and let them figure out what to charge. They wouldn't know a 3 rotor from a 2 rotor from a piston engine. No one asked me to lift the hood when I got insured. I seriously doubt that anyone with a highly modded FD (400+) has gone back to their insurance company to report as much.

 

You would probably have a different opinion if you had over 50,000 invested in something that had a 'replacement value' of less than 14,000.

I have spoken to a few different departments in GEICO about it. We were talking about a value of around 50 grand. The cost was approximately 2400 a year if registered in NC as a second car with a $500 deduct. They said it would probably be cheaper to get a 'declared value' policy from another company.

 

Nothing fancy...Racing beat spings and oe shocks.

 

I see your point, but let's be realistic. Lots of people on this forum have spent close to $50K over the years. It doesn't mean you will ever come close to recouping your investment. Regardless of your coverage, the car will NEVER be worth what you have invested.

 

Sounds like you are to cheap to invest in full insurance. What's better 14k or cominf closer to what you spent in upgrades? You may not get 50k, but I would rather take (let's say) 35k.

Well, part of the problem my be that you caled Geico. There isn't a bigger group of rip-off artists on the planet...

But the reality is, this is part of the deal with any modified car... you can't expect to see more than pennies on the dollar back on the mods an insurance claim.

That's actually the great thing about modding an FD... the buy back on the chassis in the event of a total loss isn't very much, so at least you can get it back and part it to recover some of your money.

with progressive, when i added my fd they actually have a section to insure all the mods on your car and their value. you pay more each month but it is possible. this guy i know recently totalled his 350z and he had it insured for 60K and they cut him a check for $60k because he had all his mods insured as well.

I met you at the Steve Kan dyno session the day after 7stock. I am from Vegas and I had my RHD SA with the -REW engine. You was going to gotham racing to finish your tune... How did that turn out? What power did he get from it?

 

Registered the FD today and ordered my custom plate.. I decided on "3ROTOR". I was thinking of some others but this will work..
