I see so many pictures of FD's without engines, or in various stages of engine removal, it's depressing. Someday it'll be my turn

 

Get a nice aggressive street port and a single turbo vroom

 

Gas cap comes off otherwise it is possible to have fuel constantly flowing out of the fuel lines. Not a good thing to have fuel constantly dripping, wife hates the smell and drop a steel wrench in a puddle of gas on a concrete floor=FIRE.

Here are a couple of pointers to others. Pull the engine with the trans, it is easier. Wiring is easier to deal with along with the starter, clutch, clutch slave, aligning the input shaft, etc, etc.

Leave the hood on the car. I've done it at least 10 times, hood can stay on the car to R+R engine and trans.

Those are good tips but some people cannot get the car high enoug to remove the engine and transmission still mated.

 

High enough? If you can get it high enough to get to the PPF bolts and to remove the prop shaft, you're done. You don't need height to pull the package, I actually had to lower the nose about 8 inches (from where it was while I was unbolting stuff) to get the engine mounts to clear the front when it all came out.

thanks for the tips, Turbojeff-it's kind of late to pull the engine with the tranny attached, since it's already apart. I'll have to try it on another 7 because I don't want to do it again on mine. Thanks for the tips though. ttpowered-I am giong to get all of the above except for the injectors, single turbo and AST, cause I already have that. I'm gonna stick with the twins for now. I'm thinking of chroming my UIM~any ideas on that? Keep posting, Thanks

RatedR1, high enough? You don't really need to get the car any higher. To pull the engine like he did you have to get under the car to undo the exhaust (nuts/bolts to main cat) and bellhousing bolts. This is plenty high to undo the PPF bolts and driveline bolts. Removing the trans with the engine is the easy way to go, try it you'll like it. It is the most beneficial for reinstallation. No screwing around with trying to line up the input shaft on the trans and then screwing around putting bellhousing bolts, starter and wiring back on.

Oil mod and teflon/silicon coolant seals!

 

Can someone explain to me what the oil mod is? I've seen people talk about it, but I don't understand what it is.

 

To depressurize the fuel system so that when you disconnect the fuel lines you don't get squirted in the face with fuel...lol
