If you get this, please post a pic. Especially if you get the 3.5" version. What shipped price did you get (3" or 3.5")?

would there be any advantage to using 3.5 inch?

I mean if the core is the same size for both 3 and 3.5 which seems likley, then whats holding you back is going to be the cat not the pipe diameter, it seems like there would be no advatage to using 3.5 over 3.

My answer is,"SO...." HAHA! It's the same price regardless of size from Revo-Tune.

RMagic linky no worky. You have to download it to view. It looks exactly the same bu the picture sucks.

The reason to get 3.5" mid pipe-cat/silencer combo is if your downpipe is 3.5" (single turbo most likely). If you are twin turbo with 3" down pipe then you get the 3" cat/silencer to match pipe diameter all the way back including the exhaust.

Revo-Tune has 90mm downpipe for the twins too! HAHA! YES!

update from SMB

they will sell the 3" metallic cat with 3" resonator welded onto the rear of the cat for $620 (including shipping), if we can get 5 people, he will do it for $524 (including shipping)

the standard metallic cat (without resonator) is $457, or $362 for 5

this sounds a little cheaper than the Revo-Tune, and should be every bit as good quality, based on what Dale's experience

I'd like to place my order next week, anyone else in?

prob the best way to handle this is just send Grant at SMB an email and tell him you want in on the rx7club deal with Mark Strong

once he gets 5 orders, it's a go...I don't want to wait around for a month to get the show on the road, I need to get my car inspected ASAP

How about we get a list together to make sure we have five people first. Would that be better?

alright lets make this easier

I made a thread HERE to get the list together. If you'd like an SMB midpipe please express your interest there. I'm looking to order mine within the next two weeks.

bump

please visit the group buy interest section and get in on this deal...if you're currently running a midpipe and are tired of the obnoxiously loud exhaust and/or fuel smell, this is THE solution! very low pressure drop relative to a conventional (ceramic) high flow cat

So what’s the current word on these?

Anyone that has a few 10k on theirs and has actually broken it down to have a look inside?

Has anyone taken a before and after WB reading to see a relative change in emissions at the tip (simply to gage the decrease in apparent smell)?

Has anyone with just a resonator and moved to a MSC done a before and after decibel measurement? Or long shot, resonator to resonator+MSC decibel test?

Are these decreasing in efficiency after buildup, or use in a high temp environment?

What’s the word on air pump/no airpump. I Thought these were completely unnecessary on these units?

What kind of change in “smell” can I expect going from a fairly rich tune single turbo with RX7 store Resonated Midpipe, and RB twintip catback to a MSC in place of the resonated midpipe?

Any long term users care to give an update?

What is the all around best model currently?

Looking for build quality, and fitment as priorities.

Full stainless a huge plus!

I checked my SMB after about 3k of hard miles (and I was running rich most of that time) and it was perfect.

Has anyone taken a before and after WB reading to see a relative change in emissions at the tip (simply to gage the decrease in apparent smell)?
I doubt anyone has done this. You don't need equipment to tell you if something smells or not. I have, however, a direct emissions comparison with the stock cat and the SMB does not remove enough emissions to pass a CA emissions test. However, it completely removes any gasoline smell.

Here is the stock cat vs. the SMB (from this thread):

Stock cat:

Test________CO2%__O2%______HC(PPM)________CO%_____ ____NO(PPM)______
______RPM_MEAS__MEAS__MAX_AVE_MEAS__MAX__AVE__MEAS _MAX__AVE__MEAS
15mph_1768_14.30__0.80_|_88__21___22__|_0.52__0.06__0.01_|_704__150__167
25mph_2922_14.40__0.50_|_53__13____6__|_0.50__0.05__0.24_|_738__136___87

SMB cat:

Test________CO2%__O2%______HC(PPM)________CO%_____ ____NO(PPM)_____
_______RPM_MEAS__MEAS__MAX_AVE_MEAS__MAX__AVE__MEA S_MAX__AVE__MEAS
15mph_1771_14.69__0.16_|_88__21__120__|_0.52__0.06__0.57_|_704__150__245
25mph_2034_14.70__0.11_|_53__13__106__|_0.50__0.05__0.65_|_738__136__201

Has anyone with just a resonator and moved to a MSC done a before and after decibel measurement? Or long shot, resonator to resonator+MSC decibel test?
I never bothered doing a decibel test (and I even have a Radio Shack dB meter somewhere in my garage) because the SMB without a resonator is barely louder than the stock cat at idle or on the highway at ~80mph. At WOT it is very loud.

With a civilized exhaust (I have the RB dual tip) there is no need for a resonator with an SMB.

Are these decreasing in efficiency after buildup, or use in a high temp environment?
No clue.

SMB claim that they are not needed with their cat. I run one anyways.

There is absolutely no smell with my SMB - even when I was running rich. While it does not reduce emissions enough to pass CA smog, ~100ppm of HCs is a long way from the 1000ppm+ numbers that you can get with a midpipe.

I have not kept up with the market, but I'd be very surprised to find something of higher quality than the SMB cat. It is a work of art and is one of the highest quality automotive component that I have seen.

Bump for others' experience!! moconnor, those numbers aren't bad at all for the SMB, you're not that far off from passing. Would probably have to take some fuel out of your map, I'm sure it could be done...
