Filling Transmission Fluid while transmission is out of car
I recently removed the transmission from my bone stock 93. I had to open it up to replace the 5th gear synchro, and I also replaced the clutch while I was down there.
Noob question, but can I fill the transmission while it is out of the car?

You need a plug for the output shaft of the transmission, made from removing the front yolk from a driveshaft.
Otherwise you will lose a lot of the fluid when you angle the trans up into the tunnel.

IMHO, just wait until it's in the car. Fiddling around with a plug and the possibility of slopping expensive gear oil everywhere isn't worth it. It's not like pumping gear oil into the transmission is a huge chore.
Make sure the car is level on jack stands when you fill it so the transmission is level.

There are inexpensive gear oil pumps available from most of the chain parts stores for ~ $10. Putting it in beforehand would be a huge pita. Safer to fill the shifter reservoir too.
