A few questions

Quick questions.

1. Coolant buzzer and light came on yesterday at start up after driving a 20 miles. Checked coolant level today in the overfill tank and is in between L and F. Checked Radiater cap and saw that there was some in there also. So why the Buzzer? Hasn't come back on since.

2. Why is there 2 radiater caps and Which one do I service.

3. If I need to add a little Is it okay to use water till I flush my coolant?

4. Before shutting down after driving the car warmed up, In idle, I noticed the car shakes a little and dips into 600 rpms and vacuum goes from 17 to 12 psi when the fans come on. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance

Could be bubbles in the system. Try burping it. Ppl advocate various diff method, I use the quick and easy one (which works). Open cap on water filler neck, leave the cap off, start engine, let it warm up, rev it a bit, let it idle a bit, rev it a bit, let it idle a bit etc... if you see bubbles coming up, repeat until no more bubbles come up (you may not see bubbles coming up...if the coolant level drops, add coolant (or water), repeat the rev and idle steps until coolant level stays the same (topped off). Replace cap. Presto.

2. Why is there 2 radiater caps and Which one do I service.
One is on the coolant filler neck, and the one is on a plastic thing called the AST (Air separator tank). The AST is for overflow. You do NOT add coolant there. You add coolant to the water filler neck only. This is the one next to the pulleys, and is on top of a metal body, to the left of the alternator, right next to/in front of the airpump.

3. If I need to add a little Is it okay to use water till I flush my coolant?
Absolutely. Most of us run a mix of coolant and water, as water has better heat absorption properties than straight coolant.

Not sure... I know the idle and sputter or the car can even stall out when the A/C is turned on if you have a bad clutch switch...

Just adding to FDNewbie's comments:

3) A quick note, you may want to use distilled water. Tap water contains minerals which gunk up the radiator and cooling system.

4) It's normal for the rpm to dip and go back up right after the fans come on. Dunno what would be the problem if rpm doesn't climb back up.
