Unhappy Few problems with my FD :(

Hi there

i didn't know where to go and accidently found this site ...it seems like you guys know everything about rx-7 so maybe you can answer my question...

i have just bought an rx-7 1993 reg., everything was ok when i was checking the car with the guy who was selling it, but after i brought it back home and left it for about 3 hours, so engine cooled down it didn want to start, i turned the key few times and tried to accelerate a bit so i warm it up a little bit more, nothing happened. then i took the key out and put it back, tried to turn it couple of times and it started after a while, but i dont know , does it mean there is something wrong with the engine?

and also i think it hesitates when accelerating, it accelerates after like 1 sec when i pu my foot down? what does it mean?

i would appriciate if you answer my questions, i don't know nothing about it and dont know where to go...

thank you

ok im gonna do my compression test tommorow, but i have another problem, i got the coolant light on every day(well not every day but every 2 days) when i try to put some coolant it just comes out from Underneath the car, i have spoken to a mechanic and he said thats normal, and probably i was trying to put too much coolant and it was an overflow, the thing is, that even if i put a little bit it still leaks.

Am i doing something wrong? is it normal for these cars? ar is the radiator leaking (i have some coolant in there as the end of the stick in a coolant bootle is wet)

please help...

Don't fret about the people saying blown coolant seal. Symptoms of a blown coolant seals are:

1) continously having to put coolant on.
2) Hard starts
3) Once it starts the engine shakes like crazy then after a couple of minutes it act's like nothing is wrong.
4) a lot of white smoke upon start up.

as far as your coolant problem is concerned.

Replace radiator caps, if you have an aftermarket AST (if you don't know what that is use the search function please) it’s probably leaking. Add the coolant at the filler neck, then add it to the overflow tank (by the headlight). Common symptom of a leaky radiator caps is upon shut down coolant overflows from the over flow tank.

Boost issue: depending on what modifications are done in the car it could just be lag. DO you have a boost gauge? If not get one no one. Does the car have stock turbos? If not then it certainly lagespecially if you have a single turbo. If you do have stock turbos do you know if they are sequential or set up non sequential?

Sequential system is our stock set up it is essential instant boost response past 2900 RPMs. The stock (10 psi) boost pattern is as follows 2900 RPMs it is 10 psi- 4300 RPMs boost drops to 8 psi and instantly back up to 10. Therefore boost pattern is 10-8-10 psi.

If you are non–sequential then it is most certainly boost lag. Non-sequential boost pattern at stock boost level is ~3800 RPMs at 10 psi and all the way to redline.

the only aftermarket parts that i know about are induction kits(apexi, greddy), and exhaust(dont know what make tho) i got stock turbos and i think is sequential, im not sure but you are saying that after 2900rpm first turbo goes off right? (it does) and then about 4500 second turbo (when the 2nd turbo goes off and if im driving on a slippery(wet) surface the boost is so big that its really hard to hold the car straight! (got used to it now but i never forget my first ride )

is that ok? i mean i havent had any problems to start the engine (only once but it never happened again- it was my 2nd day as owner so probably done something wrong) when i start the engine the only thing that i can hear is the nicest sound in the world and when i rev a bit i can hear her breathing DD (it really sounds like that!)

the only probblem at the mo is coolant lekage(i think) but i want to take a good care of her and get everything done, so it drives spot on...

btw:
my interior is pretty bad, does anyone know a garage near london, or MK who can do it for me (i mean really bad and i'd like a proffesionals to do it)
or maybe someone has got parts (door cards+all the plastics, dashboard, bassically all the interior - geezer who owned the car before me made it look like a piece of junk inside )

Dude, head to fduk.org or mazdarotaryclub.com if you want any uk specific questions answered. Plenty have had their interiors sorted so can point you in the right direction.
