A few monthes ago I posted and got great feedback, but I have a new situation now

First, is it better to buy an excellent RX7 for 20+ K dollars, a pretty good one for 16-18K that might need a little personalizing, or a not so good one for under 14K that might need a little work?

About a few monthes ago I posted saying that I had 10-13 K to spend on a car a year from now and asked about the feasibility of an FD. I got a lot of positive feedback as well as a few IM's (thank you TTurboRex7!) about how I should go with a car.

Well, I have a new situation, as follows, including some information I had forgotten to post the last time.
1. I have more than enough $$$ due to many fortunate circumstances I am very thankful for. Suffice it to say, I could afford a really nice FD and add a DVD deck after a stage 3 from M2.
2. I will be driving this car for less than 5000 miles a year MAX. During the school monthes, as I mentioned before I am going to be attending Stanford, where a car is by no means necessary. In fact, owning a car is rather inconvinient as opposed to a bicycle, which will take you to most places on campus faster than a car. The school is also very self contained. I know some of you who I talked to lived in an apartment in Silicon Valley and needed to drive a lot, put milege every day. I would only be driving this car during the weekends. Since the FD is a 2 seater, I would visit home carpooling friend's dad who works on campus, and prob. going to the city in a bigger car. Anyways, the point is that this car would be driven ultra low milege, like that one on EBAY that the owner drives from his garage to his mailbox .

I've spent time talking to Rick, and I hear he is a good mechanic, albiet expensive.

So I basically don't NEED a car. Again i can't drive frosh year so this is just a pleasure car. I won't even be driving this car hard. The plan right now is to start looking for a good '94-'95 turbo MR2 around christmas. Those are really rare though! So if I don't find the MR2 by about april or may I'll start looking for an FD. I've done lots of research, and have read through the FD's repair manual several times, so I had a few questions to ask of anyone who owns an fd. Doesn't have to be an expert mechanic, just an fd owner. Tt would be really cool if I could IM some of you guys to talk about your personal experiences. It's just that even though I could get this car I'm really still hesitating, since I've done so much research on other cars too and this is just one of them.

I know some people who own the car say the car always has problems all the time. Well, I mean, provided I had all the reliability everything, is part of the car just going to pop off randomly for no apparent reason when I'm driving it 30 miles a week? Is it that bad?

Well, one of the questions that immediately comes to mind is about DP-MP. I've searched and I've also noticed a lot of FD's will have a DP and a catback, but why not a midpipe?

And I'm still looking for the Montenegro (sp.?) blue FD on campus! Who owns it?! It was parked outside of the dorm I'll be staying in next year! (Soto, Wilbur)

So thanks a lot guys! you guys are the nicest and coolest group of car owners online! I think a good test of how 'nice' a car forum is is by asking an "F&F" question. Most people puke and flames shoot from their mouths but most of you guys actually have the patience to politely point the ricers in the correct direction, which is very mature and classy of you, especially since there are a lot of under 20 fd owners here showing great maturity for their age. Thanks again!

Cause it stinks to high heaven. The rotary is one of the dirtiest engines out there, though the new Renesis in the RX8 is supposedly very clean.

I want to be able to drive my 7 with the windows down, and not smell like I had been riding one of my motorcycles. A MP should flow better though, and make more power of course. Depends on what you want.

THe complaints I hear about midpipes are they are too loud and to much stench. I have a midpipe....NO COMPLAINTS! I drive with the windows down and the midpipe doesnt interfere with my music. As for stench and what not. Ya there some smell of gas, and dont ever use the AC without using recycle mode. But I like the occasional gassy smeell (not that common). Just don't ever ave ur car on in a closed space witha mid pipe cuz i will bet that u pass out within 5 minutes tops lol (i lasted about 3 and felt high for a good hour. GOOD TIMES! )

Anywayz, FD=a car I would'nt even think about trading for a much pricier car. Take care of it and it willl take care of you my friend. I've had my car since the beguining of may and its practically a daily driver with 85000 miles. I run 8 psi to be on the safe side in an AT. even with an automatic, its the thrill of my life. I highly recomend it, and its good to hear that you have made yourself knowledgable on it. BTW, in the 3 months I have had the car no problems, with only about half the reliablilty mods doin neaely 40 miles a day on weekdays in 90 heat. I got a winner (for now at least!)

Good Luck!
