FE rotors, FD car.

I did a search in here and in the brake/suspension tech section and couldn't find anything close to what I'm asking. I'm wondering if anyone has ever used the larger RX-8 Brake rotors with the stock front brake caliper and what it took to get them to fit if they did. I'm contemplating trying to upgrade just the front brakes on the FD without buying a BBk and if I can't get any solid info, this Saturday I will buy a set of used RX-8 rotors and try it and report back what I find...

The stock brakes are more than enough unless your adding 2000lbs of audio equipment and 700hp . . . (of course these are exaggerated numbers)

Unless you are tracking your car, brake upgrades are a waste of money. Having that said, getting the larger rotors to work with stock calipers will at least require a bracket to space out the caliers, and even then, the rotors might be too thick for them to work with stock calipers. It would be too much work to make it work... Why not just go with 99spec brakes if you're just looking for larger rotors? Or maybe you can pick up RX-8 calipers as well and try to make a custom bracket for them to work. That would be easier than just trying to make the rotors work with stock calipers.

I've heard that argument for every generation and its pretty far off the mark unless the car is bone stock and carries no passengers.

Those were installed before I posted this, but now that someone of your technological genius is here, can you help start my car? I'm having problems finding out where to stick the key. At first I thought the cigarette lighter was a good place, but then my arm caught on fire. Please PM me this info, because I really wanna drive my car, I just can't find out how to start it.

Heres thing. The car has had inconsistent braking since I bought. Little by little I tried trouble shooting the problem before I replaced anything, until I gave up and bought new pads and rotors front and rear, new brake master cyl. and completely bled the ABS system. Driving normally there is no problem. Step up the pace and after a few pumps the brakes lose their confident feeling and go all over the map. I've double checked the pads(Hawk HPS) and master cyl. (Mazda Genuine) and both are fine. The larger front rotors are an attempt to fix this without going to far into the Big Brake category.

im almost sure you need the brackets to move the calipers out to fit the larger rotors, if you can make that then ou can fit the rx8 rotors if the disc is the same thickness as the rx7. another option that you already know is to get a wilwood kit, 2pc rotors, i think they sell one that works with the oem calipers.

Have you checked the calipers themselves? Stock, the brakes shouldn't behave that way. I've tracked the stock brakes for years and never experienced anything that you are experiencing.

Have you also checked the vacuum assist part of the brake system?

I have not checked the vacuum assist Mahjik, but in my experience usually when the booster goes you get a hard pedal and no brakes. This gets hard, goes soft, in between hard and soft, but the braking stays lackluster no matter how the pedal feels. I also don't think its the vacuum system because the brakes are fine under normal street driving. I did check the calipers when I did the brake job and they seemed fine. They're no leaking now so I don't think its a seal or defect in the piston.

This leads me to believe you have a component that is failing under heat. As mentioned, this shouldn't happen as many guys blast their cars around with stock calipers. When you are driving the car hard and this happens, how long does it take for the brakes to return to normal? Also, what brake fluid are you using?

I'm using ATE Super Blue DOT 4. Usually it will return to normal rather quickly, but I've been so frustrated with it I haven't driven it since last Saturday. Let me take it for a spin when I get home and I'll let you know.
