You can buy the door lock complete with the solenoid directly from Japan, mazda part number F123-58-310C at about USD100. This is for RHD vehicle though. You can order from www.perfectrun.com.au or www.japanparts.com

Does anyone know which wires in the kick panell or door do i need to tap into to lock and unlock the door? Im trying to install a keyless entry sytem.

I've been trying to do this myself - any more information you have on this would be VERY much appreciated.

Here's what I've found so far -

I got my hands on a RHD power door lock actuator, thinking I could just install it in the driver's side door latch and have an actuator that's nice and OEM. Well, that's not the case - after hacking up my driver's side door latch, it is NOT POSSIBLE to use the RHD actuator. I had to cut off a tab for the microswitch that registers when the lock is moved, trying to get clearance. After I removed that, there's still a mechanical interference with the lock mechanism on the latch - it's impossible to use that actuator with the LHD latch.

I do believe, though, that you can use the WHOLE RHD latch with the rods and cables to make this work. But, finding one has been a ROYAL pain so far. This part should be a dime a dozen on used RX-7's in Japan that are in the junkyard, etc.

What exactly is the part number you're listing above - is that the whole latch mechanism, or just the actuator? Any advice on getting this part - are the sites you listed able to get Mazda parts?

the only way is to install an aftermarket doorlock motor, done it a bunch of times when i was security installer. I works as a slave system for the passenger door. it must be mounted parallel with manuel lock inside the car on cable under door skin. very tight fit. but this is standard on all cars with out power door locks that need keyless entry. i have always use an DEI door lock motor and drilled new holes (new door boot) to pass wires into door for motor. good luck useing factory boot if you must. oh yeah, you'll need keyless entry brain as well, recommed DEI as well, viper or rattler.

I've considered installing an aftermarket actuator, but I'd rather use an OEM actuator - it's just me being **** with the setup . I don't want some goofy actuator held in with metal straps and self-tapping screws - the OEM actuator actually attaches right to the door latch and rotates the mechanism itself. VERY clean. It's gonna be harder and more expensive to find the part, but I want to find the best setup possible .

I'm just going to buy an aftermarket actuator and attach it to the door as per pics I've seen on the forum. I'm not really worried about how clean the install is, considering it's going to be hidden behind a door panel. As long as it works and doesnt break its fine for me.

Mine is aftermarket. It clamped on to the cable. After a while the screw holding the two metal tabs the that held the wire fell off. An OEM version would be alot more reliable and prefered since it wouldn't be clamped to the wire.

Why can't you install the JDM actuator on the passenger side? What does it matter? ...it's keyless with an alarm anyhow. Without the alarm, using the key on drivers side will open both doors anyhow. Hmmm, maybe it would only open the passenger door?

i know, different car, but you may want to look into something along these lines:

my little brother drives a 1989 Merkur Scorpio, and he just installed a remote start system. the system he bought also had keyless entry, one of the things that was not offered on his car back in '89. he does, however, have power locks, much like what was described in "GoRacer"s post, they all unlock with the drivers door being unlocked, but if you just unlock the individual door (such as the passenger or one of the back doors), the rest of the doors remain locked. when he installed the remote starter, he somehow ended up with keyless entry as well. i don't know how it works, but i'll ask him when he gets home from school (he's a junior in HS and i'm home from college on spring break). i'll give you guys an update later.

The FD only has a power door lock actuator on the passenger side. The passenger lock just mimics what the driver's side does. Hence my idea to get a JDM power door lock that goes in the left (Japan passenger) door, so I can put that in the US left (driver's side) door. With actuators on both locks, keyless entry is a piece of cake .

You are quite correct and I know exactly what you are trying to achieve. I am doing exactly the same thing with that part I listed coming in from Japan shortly. The part number I quoted includes the whole mechanism complete with new cables. I am doing this because it is far more reliable as it actuates directly at the lock which is much better physics.

I also took apart the passenger side actuator and tried to fit it into my driver's door but because of the inherent design it is only for the side from which it originates.

Now then... because we are right-hand drive our passenger door would I think equal your driver's door design / orientation. I'll check at home if I still have the actuator for passenger door which I could send to you?? I may have a spare because i bought two "chop shop" doors!

I had an aftermarket acuator installed for my keyless entry on the drivers side and after about a day it would just seize up. I've had about 5 installed and all have the same problem. The installers at the shop are dumbfounded. I have a Clifford alarm so I am guessing they are using a DEI acuator. Any ideas?

Ok finnally done with my AFTERMARKET ALARM install with Power door locks. After numbers of trial and error I finnaly got the actuator and linkaged made up and fit right. Know the car has Keyless entry with a security peace of mind. Here is the door pics of the ACTUATOR and LINK that I made. Good luck for those that are still make the aftermarket alarm to work. Luckly mine was a success.

Oh and I got a Turbo timer after being a VW TECH for years I noticed the 7 has 2 ign wires for some odd reason. So the aftermarket alarm is tied into one and the Turbotimer on the other. So when you shut the car off the timer turns on and the aftermarket alarm see the other ign input being off there for the you open the door and my alarm set the automatic arm after 30sec. So the car cools and arm/lock its self after, which is exactly what I want. OH yea and about the stock alarm well looks like the alarm arms itself after the lock cylinder sees and lock postion, well I cut those two wires and tap it to the same wires that operate the actuator. But beware some alarm system have different 12/ground signal so you have to check. So that eleminates the stock alarm going off when the aftermarket arms/disarms.
