FD3S Blow-Off Valve
FD3S Blow-Off Valve
Alright, so finally got my RX-7 saftied and what not, and having a lot of fun with it. Favorite first car ever! Anyways, after being in my friends Silvia, I have determined I want the blow off valves that make noise. Louder the better I guess. Do I need one of them? or two since FD3S's Are twin turbo? Any recommendations? Also for modifications that dont cost a fortune, what get done? Air intake? New Radiators etc etc. Let me know guys!

un hook the hose for your blow off valve from the airbox. cable tie it 2 something so its not flipping around under the hood. then u should be able to here it discharge air.
after doin that read the fax threads and search the forums to answer other questions u have about the car. some guys will take offence and flame u for asking comon questions before searchin....
start with some reliabilty mods before u wanna up the power of the car
ast & rad mainly
get an cold air intake, full exhaust, fuel pump & a stand alone ecu to start off your performance mods.
then u can move on to bigger more efficient intercooler and it escalates from their.
modding these cars turns into an addiction.

No loss, no gain.
No aftermarket BOV will help an FD with the stock turbos. However if installed incorrectly it can hurt it.
I suggest you feel free to disconnect it to see what it sounds like, but before spending any money on a BOV you should do every maintenance item imagineable: all new coolant hoses, fuel filter, belts, coolant change, oil change, gear oil and diff oil, pillowballs, etc.

Alright, so I have read around abit more, found a long thread about simply removing the BOV cord and plugging the hole. Sounds good to me, is this commonly done? Also what I'm not 100% is, what do I gain/lose? Anything important. From my understanding I gain the PSHHT sound, and I lose unburnt oil cycling back into the engine and instead I pollute the air a little more. A SMALL amount of oil I understand comes out of the tube? Can someone correct me with the losses and gains? and if this cord is AT ALL important, or just a silencer/oil recycler? Thanks

I don't know how common it is, but I did it. I briefly drove around with a duck call attached for a few laughs...

As far as gaining or losing something, your not. There is really nothing to gain or lose by venting the bov to atmosphere. If you really want the "PSHHT" sound, then go nuts dude!

I sense another youngster will have a blown motor because all he cares about is sound from a bov. Oh well, to each his own.
Since you already ordered the radiator, get a dp (and maybe a catback), aluminum ast, new coolant hoses, perform the silicone hose replacement using zip ties, maybe an intercooler if you're feeling lucky, a boost gauge is a definite and an aftermarket water temperature gauge.
You should get a PFC and tuning just because they are probably the most valuable items you can have for the car.
If I were to put the items in order of importance...
1. Boost Gauge + Water Temp Gauge
2. Dp
3. Aluminum AST
4. Catback
5. Silicone Hoses + Coolant Hoses
6. Intercooler <--- If you make it this far, item 7 is highly recommended before overboosting although you may not need this because you are not running a mp.
7. PFC + Tuning

I got the idea from someone else on youtube (yeah, I'm an unoriginal bastard). Oddly enough though, it didn't draw as much attention as I expected.....

I did scare the hell out of some old guy on a bike though. The look on his face was priceless...............
