FD in a wreck

I have to discuss this with my distant RX7 family. Last night some guy cut me off and I tried to avoid him, but it happened to fast that there was no way to avoid it.

I had a feed hood on the car and also a 99 front end. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to go about this to get the car repaired.

I can either go through my insurance of the guys insurance. What would you guys suggest. Also how do I get pricing so I can give the insurance adjuster when he comes out

Thanks in advance and any info you can give me will help.

I'd go to a body shop to get an estimate first. If its not to much, I'd repair it myself. If you go through insurance and your insurance pays out, you will be bombarded with higher premiums for a while. I doubt you will be able to gather enough evidence to find the other guy at fault unless he admits it. If the estimate is to high, just speak to your insurance company on how to proceed. In the end, they are the experts. Plus things differ from state to state.

Contact your insurance agent and ask how to proceed. It is in their interest that you collect on the other guys insurance.

He admitted to the cops and also his insurance agency. I will have to weigh the options on if i fix it or have them take care of it. I needed to get the car painted so maybe I can get this out of it.

The front core support is gone and finding a donor FD will be hard.

If it's his fault and he admitted it, then I don't understand the dilemma. I guess it can get shaky if you rear-ended him as it's "always" the rear person's fault. But if not, then your insurance will fix it and then they will go after his insurance to cover it, and you shouldn't have to pay anything and your premium should not go up.

Your insurance will give you an estimate to start but you're entitled to go anywhere you want. The first estimate is usually a low-ball bare bones fix. Take it to the best body shop you can find. If they are good and they are tight with your insurance company's adjuster, then they will look to approve more work through a supplemental estimate. It should look better than new when done.

(A deer blindsided me a couple years ago causing damage to the LF fender and hood, but barely scraping the roof and passenger door. The first estimate was $1800 or so. I took it to a premium shop that was able to approve an extra $2000 out of my insurance. They were going to re-paint 3/4 of the car anyways so I went ahead and paid $3000 out of pocket for a complete paint job - new color and all - as my old paint was a mess. That deer actually ended up saving me about $4000! No raise in premium....thumbs up to the GEICO gecko!)

Good luck! (And nice pj's.)

Pretty bad advice there. Find a good body shop, and go thru the others guys insurance. They will have to pay for everything. Your insurance company probably wont pay for any aftermarket part you have installed unless you paid extra to insure them, plus you will have to come up with your deductible, which you may not get back.

I've had much worse. Easily fixable. As others said, find a good shop and if your insurance co wants to use their own, tell them to stick it unless you have some clause that states otherwise.

CorkSport Mazda Performance - 360-260-CORK sold the '99 bumper skins for a reasonable price last time I checked

If it was the other guys fault, it is their obligation to make the vehicle as it was. Aftermarket parts included. They will fight it only because they hope you don't know your rights.

Yeah def, I am waiting for the insurance to cut me a check for the amount that the adjuster told me.

I am just torn by the parts list I want to get. For example the feed fenders with stock wheels will probably look horrible! LOL

Good luck finding a feed hood
Shine stopped making them a while ago
There's a thread on their section asking them to remake them.

Insurance companies are tricky to deal with,...
The other guys insurance co. will not know how to judge the damage on that car and may just cut you a check to go away. Especially with everything thats aftermarket.

You may need to get your insurance co to negotiate on your behalf

Yeah i know I spoke to Shine already and they told me that they will be back in production in early 2013, so I need to see if I can source a factory hood for the time being.

The adjuster said that after going through all of the damages he feels the cost of everything will be $8400. He said that it puts me at 62% value to damage. I am just waiting for the insurance to agree and cut the check.

Wow, if that's what they're giving you for that damage, you'd better sign on the dotted line and run! lol. You can re-model the entire car + engine with that cash. You need to give us the name of that adjuster and insurance company so we can use them.
