Sorry, didn't see this thread.
As Allan said, my car is the ex-Tripoint Engineering car which won in ASP back in '96,'97, and '98. At one point the car was converted to a piggyback setup (originally it was only TecII) that had the stock computer still managing some of the injectors and enforcing the boost cut. All that was to try to stay in line with strict interpretations of the ASP rules. In that configuration the car didn't make as much power. When I bought the car last year I was going to run it in ASP, but after having it a short while I didn't think I'd be able to make it fast enough to beat the current top ASP Z06's.
So, I've been turning it into an SM2 (Street Modified 2) car which has a much more generous ruleset. However, there are so many things you can do and still be legal in SM2, that I just tried to focus on a few things for this year.
Basically, this is an ASP car, but with a boost controller and shorter gears. I've done many other smaller items that wouldn't be ASP legal, but are small on the performance gain scale. Basic mods to the car are....
-Electromotive TecII (pretty old unit but still does OK)
-Stock engine and turbos
-Apexi AVC-R boost controller
-CCW 17x10 and 17x11 wheels (275F,315R Kumhos)
-Penske double adjustable shocks
-Greddy SMIC
-custom blade adjustable front swaybar
-Racing Beat rear swaybar
-4.77 r&p
I was pretty happy with how Nationals went considering the motor blew 2 weeks before we were supposed to leave. Also, at most of the ProSolos I had been getting killed by Gary Thomason in his Z06 (really an ASP car). Beating Gary in the ProSolo Finale and then winning Nationals (Gary ran in ASP for Nationals) was a nice finish to the year.
For next year I'm still focusing on getting the handling better, as I don't think I have spring rates right yet and the shocks still need work. Oh yeah, then I'll get to do alignment again. You get the picture. Some day I'll worry about making more power (probably about 360rwhp right now).
In the meantime I'll do my best to represent. The FD is a pretty easy car to be fast in SM2 rules since boost control (really the whole powertrain) is open so you can make plenty of power with just something like a Power FC. Most other go fast parts are also easily available.
